“Nice hotel, minus for breakfast”

Good hotel, with decent beds. Bathroom was very clean, and very well equiped. Complimentary newspaper in the morning. They give you a coupon for Continental breakfast in the morning, but all it really is is youghurt and toast - therfore not a 5.

This old, one-time grand hotel, is now run down. The floors slant, the floorboards creek. The rooms have "antique"-style furniture--translation: old, inconvenient, musty, uncomfortable. The service attitude is indifferent at best, with the main thrust of the hotel seeming to be as a venue for obnoxious weddings and other functions that keep you up all night. The included breakfast has not changed in twenty-five years, is worse than what is available at a Comfort Suites or Hampton Inn. With all the alternativism in the area, one would think the management would procure some local-baked muffins and farm fresh eggs. Even the coffee is lousy, barely drinkable. This place is only surviving because of limited choice in the area and a captive college-town visiting parent audience. Not worth the inflated prices!!

Thank you for sharing with us your opinion of your stay. While we are an older property we are continually updating our accommodations while maintaining the historic integrity of the building. I’m sorry to hear that our service did not meet your standards; we will certainly address this with our team members. The continental breakfast is a cold spread which is why it does not include eggs; however all of our baked goods are provided by a well-known bakery in the area. We appreciate your opinions and will take them all into consideration to maximize guest satisfaction.

A very nice alternative to the plainer, cheaper chain hotels in the area, the Hotel Northampton has a bit of character and (such a nice perk) a parking lot for guests right in the middle of town. There was a large corporate event going on in the first floor function room adjoining the lobby during our stay, but it did not bother us--in fact, it offered some entertaining people-watching. Our room was clean, quiet, had a nice bathroom. We did not eat at the hotel because we wanted to sample some of the many restaurants nearby. We spent an afternoon shopping on the main street, and another afternoon picking strawberries at a nearby farm. The Hotel Northampton provided a great home base.

Room Tip: In the main building, choose a room on a higher floor because the lobby was very busy.

Our second floor room (#216) was blasted with loud wedding band music until 12:10 A.M. -- the management (Hilary Wallace) was unapologetic and would only agree to cut the $280 room charge by 10%. She falsely stated that "we told you it might be noisy when you made the reservation."

I stayed at this hotel for three nights in July 2014. My room was large, with two beds and a couch and chair in a somewhat separate sitting area with TV. The bed was very comfortable and the AC worked well (other than the fact that there was no way to adjust the fan speed). The bath was spacious and the shower worked well. The bath products offered were of excellent quality. All the staff that I interacted with were very helpful and pleasant. Since I use a C-PAP, I had to asked for assistance in being able to plug it in (the room has surprisingly few electrical outlets) and a staff person responded immediately. The location of the hotel is wonderful - right downtown within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and bookstores.
I had the continental breakfast that is included in the price of the room, which included the usual cereal, muffins, juice, fresh fruit. This was in the hotel dining room which is very pleasant and light-filled. Although one can stay at less expensive places outside of Northampton, it was fun to stay in this traditional hotel in the heart of the town.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Northampton. Hotel is centrally located (really the best location you could possibly ask for if you want to enjoy downtown Northampton). We picked a room in the Gothic Gardens given that those rooms are more modern. Everything was impeccably clean and the service was fantastic (we asked for more pillows / towels on a few occasions and they came very quickly).

The Gothic Gardens is across the parking lot, so it is not attached to the hotel. This may or not be ideal for some guests, but it worked out for us as we were traveling with a toddler and it was helpful to have easy access to the car.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Gothic Gardens are expensive, but worth the extra money.

First off the staff at this hotel was great - every person we interacted with (with the exception of one) was very friendly and helpful, and it seemed that they genuinely cared about your stay. We stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding off property - at first we really liked the hotel. It's in a great location, with easy walking distance to restaurants and shops, and only a 10 minute drive from the wedding we were attending. The room was a bit small since it was on a corner, but a fine size for our needs. The bed was comfortable, AC worked wonderfully and the bathroom was nice and clean.

Where our problem lied was that we had a connecting room. Now we've stayed in rooms like this before at other hotels and it was never a problem. Not here however.. our first night the couple in the adjoining room was playing music and to be frank, having incredibly loud sex. So loud it practically felt like they were in the same room. We were apprehensive about complaining, but it was after midnight and this couple continued to play music and be loud until almost 2:00am. We finally called the front desk to complain and they were very apologetic, we heard the phone ring next door and assumed the front desk called since they did quiet down a bit. However not long after they started again so my husband and I got almost no sleep the first night.

In the morning we went to the front desk and requested to switch rooms - the front desk staff was again apologetic and very nice, and said it would not be a problem. They did inform us the offending guests would be checking out today if we did not want to bother moving. We figured since they were leaving that day we didn't want to hassle with moving our things, and decided to stay.

That night we came back from the wedding at around 11:00pm and wouldn't you know it, there was ANOTHER loud couple next door playing music and being loud! We did our best to sleep but after being woken up at 2:00am immediately called the front desk to complain. The woman at the front desk said they might from a wedding the hotel hosted that night, and if they were she couldn't do anything which really upset my husband and I. What difference does it make if they attended a wedding here, were paying just as much for our room as they are! She surmised that they were not though, and security went to their room and they quieted down.

The next morning at checkout we heard 2 other couples complaining to the front desk about noisy neighbors. All in all the staff was mostly pleasant but we would absolutely not stay here again - we were given no compensation for the indecencies we had to listen to or the complete lack of sleep we got either night even after we told the front desk at checkout, other than a simple sorry. We were both disgusted after our stay and would not return.

Room Tip: Do NOT take a connecting room!!
