We stayed at the inn five times and are looking forward to the next five. The Victorian era inn offers a safe and secure home base for all our island adventures. We have stayed in four of the tastefully decorated seven rooms and found each one fresh, clean and comfortable. Our evenings are always pleasant and restful. We can wind down rocking on the porch or simply relax beside the water garden. The mornings are never rushed and an ample continental breakfast is peacefully enjoyed as we share our adventures with the other guests.
Mary and Bill are there when needed yet never imposing and not there when we want to have our own space. They really make us feel at home. Every town, village, shop, beach and restaurant on the island are enjoyed so much more when we start the day with a recharged and laid-back attitude and end it in a welcoming and peaceful room.

My husband and I needed some much deserved alone time.Friends recommended a quick and easy trip to the Vineyard. The suggestion was made for us to stay at the Admiral Benbow Inn , our friends couldn't have been more right. We felt the most genuine of hospitality. Mary and Bill couldn't have been nicer. Room 6 was very comfortable, clean and spacious. The breakfast options were generous and delicious. The homemade blueberry muffins were our favorite morning treats. In the afternoon ,my husband and I enjoyed our guilty pleasure books while sitting on the front porch. We bought a lovely bottle of wine for us to enjoy by the beautiful garden and coi pond.A return visit is in future plans. Maybe Memorial Day Weekend once again.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for Room 6 or Room 7.

We were at this place for four days and every time we went to our car or to our bicycles we had step around the hose strewn across the driveway and trip over the broken concrete and pass the owner's rusty pickup truck full of trash that wasn't moved during our entire stay. Our room on the ground floor had five doorsfour of which were just permanently closed instead of being properly closed up, which was unpleasant energetically, and you could hear every little sound from the common livingroom and from the kitchen. The owners have had the place for ten years and have done virtually nothing to make it a warn and inviting place. Old musty furniture and pictures everywhere. A few token brochures in the foyer but no real interest in providing information about the island. The place just oozed apathy. I'm only writing this review to balance some of the other ridiculously positive reviews, some of which HAD to be writen by the owners themselves. We would not stay here again -- really -- if it were free.

My Husband and I came to the Vineyard in hopes of a relaxing getaway from our hectic lives. And that's exactly what we got by staying at The Admiral Benbow Inn. Bill and Mary were very accomodating Inn Keepers. We stayed in room 6, which has a beautiful canopy bed and great decor. We enjoyed relaxing in the colorful and over flowing gardens. My husband just loved the fish pond! With the Inn being a quick and enjoyable walk to down town oak bluffs we were able to experience the local scene without spending money on cabs.

We stayed here for three nights in October. Mary was welcoming and considerate. The Inn is comfortable and the rooms are clean.
We had seen comments on Tripadvisor that the Inn was on a busy road - in fact our rooms were on the side of the Inn next to the road and we didn't find that a problem at all.
You can walk into Oak Bluffs from the Inn and, although in the past we had visited Edgartown, we preferred Oak Bluffs this time. We had a car, and found that this was a good way of seeing the whole island in our own time. In fact, given the changeable weather in October, I would not like to have been on the island without a car.
Breakfast is quite a limited cold buffet, but includes fresh fruit, muffins, bagels, croissants, so is perfectly adequate.
Certainly, I would say that this inn is very good value - a bargain on such an expensive island.

Just arrived home from a wonderful time on Martha's Vineyard, and a 2 night stay at the Admiral Benbow, hosted by Mary and Bill Moore, who always treat us as family as well as treasured guests. We came to know this inn when we searched for an inn on the vineyard with a bedroom with 2 beds in a room - they have two! Have been going back multiple times a year as family and/or with friends after our first stay and getting to know the Moores. Off-season we take the car across on the ferry (even though the mass transit buses reach most parts of the island). Illumination Weekend (now a tradition for us) during peak season, we travel as foot passengers, walking from the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal, past "downtown" (Ocean Park, the historic gingerbread cottages, marina, movies, restaurants and shops) to the Inn and utilize the excellent bus transportation to access the rest of the island (it stops immediately in front of the Benbow).

Oh, and I heard this morning from a new guest "Those were the best muffins I have ever had!". We agree! It is a real joy to wake up each morning to the smell of Bill's fresh baked muffins and coffee, which we often enjoy with fresh fruit salad, bagels, and several other items rocking on the front porch, or at the long dining room table adorned with flowers (fresh from Mary' s many gardens in season) where it is easy to meet folks from many places and strike up conversations (and learn that often they have stayed at the Benbow before too).

I highly recommend staying at the inn if you enjoy comfy accomodations and a friendly atmosphere, especially ones that are extremely convenient whether you drive, rent, bike, or use public transportation.

We were a family of four staying for two nights...

What we liked: Room was fine - clean and light and comfortable. Bathroom small but also fine with nice toiletries. Whole guest house was spotless. Breakfasts were simple but good. Easy getting into town on the bus, which stops wherever you hail it.

What we didn't like: Location mostly - the place on the side of busy road meant plenty of road noise unless you don't mind sleeping with windows closed (there's no aircon). The location also meant sitting out on the verandah meant you couldn't here each other speak. Returning home with damp towels and beachwear, we asked on a couple of occasions if we could use the dryer, and it felt like the owners were a bit put out by this request (indeed we never did use it) which was a very different response from everywhere else we stayed on our trip.

So it was ok comfort-wise, not location-wise. Indeed we didn't really go mad about Oak Bluffs but loved the rest of the island.
