“Dockside Inn - a laundry with rooms - Eine Wäscherei mit Zimmern”
Reviewed 6 May 2013

The Inn is newly renovated, but there is much fallen by the wayside. We had a large room over the parling garage. However, it lacked a table and the ice machine on the beneath floor was so loud, you thought it was in the room. Instead of a closet there was a chest of drawers and a clothes rack. This was very wobbly, as well as the lamp on the dresser and the faucet. In the bathroom were missing also hooks for towels.
There ist no breakfast available, not even for money. At certain times there are free coffee, water ice, granola bars and cookies.
But the worst thing was the noise level. The majority of the room walks out to the rear. There, in the yard or garden, ends the exhaust pipe of the house laundry. The laundry was in operation from morning to evening hours and caused a loud and annoying noise. Even if you go through the house, the door is always open to the laundry, which ultimately determines the overall impression.

We are sorry that this guest did not thoroughly enjoy their stay in our carriage house room. As one can see from the Dockside Inn's many positive reviews, this guest's experience is quite uncommon. It's true that there is not a closet in the carriage house room ( #35), and we are glad the reviewer noted the presence of the bureau and stand-up clothes rack. We have tightened the wobbly clothes rack. There is not a work table in the room per se, but there is a very nice loveseat, upholstered chair, and side table along the sofa, as well as an in-room refrigerator, iron and ironing board, etc. We have also added additional towel hooks in the bathroom. The Dockside Inn does not serve breakfast, but there are many excellent restaurants less than a 2-minute walk from our property. And as the reviewer noted, we do have a variety of complimentary snacks available from morning 'till night in our Solarium, including apples, bananas, oranges, a variety of granola bars and potato chips, 2 Keurig coffee machines, ice cream treats, always cold bottled water, and a gumball machine that dispenses free gumballs and malted milk balls. We rarely get a complaint about the noise from our laundry room, but we will pay close attention to that, and we have installed a self-closer on the laundry room door. This guest stayed with us over the weekend when we had started up our ice machine for the first time this season and the ice machine did run continuously for most of a day or so while the storage bin was filling with it's 200 pounds of ice. It is now full of ice and the machine operates only occasionally.

Great little Inn right next to the Oak Bluffs Marina.

Pros: The remodel is very nice, and the rooms are comfortable and stylish. LeeAnn at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. The Inn is within walking distance of coffeeshops, great restaurants and Back Door Donuts (priorities, priorities!) The snack room offers beverages, coffee, and snacks (popcorn, chips, ice cream) throughout the day, as well as some pastries in the morning. Warm cookies in the afternoon in the lobby were great. Finally, "Loomis," the virtual concierge is a great touch. He's helpful, friendly and very convenient.

Cons: I wouldn't recommend this for a quiet summer stay, as it's clear the area can be very noisy and rowdy during the high season, and the Inn's windows are very thin and let in a lot of noise. Our room did not get cleaned, which was frustrating, and when we arrived back at our room after a day of sightseeing, it was a bit annoying that the maid had left for the day and all we could do was get clean towels from the front desk.

All in all, though, this is a great place to stay off season with very friendly people, comfortable rooms and great rates (and Loomis!).

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms on the marina side share a great covered porch with water views.

Yet again, a nice review which includes a mention of Lianne (and don't forget Kathy), our extraordinary front desk personnel that go out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. Our snack room (the Solarium) is always a welcome surprise to our guests, as a better stocked and totally complimentary selection of yummy treats would be hard to find. Loomis, our virtual concierge, is also a one-of-a-kind amenity. We provide all our guests with a proprietary phone number with which they can text Loomis to ask any Vineyard related question, and there is nothing Loomis doesn't know about Martha's Vineyard. Come stay with us and try it for yourself!

We regret that this guest did not get housekeeping service on one of the days of their stay. This would be a rare oversight on our part and we would always endeavor to offer whatever housekeeping services we could, even if the staff had left for the day.

This was a very nice hotel and the people were very hospitable. The walls were very thin though and you can hear everything that goes on in and outside the hotel.. The remodeling is very nice and the hotel is very clean. The location is also very appealing if you can get past the noise levels.

Room Tip: Room 3 on the first floor by the entrance is very small and maybe that's why the noise factor wa...

Very happy I chose to stay at Dockside Inn during my last visit to Martha's Vineyard. My room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable with nice linens, the shower had excellent pressure (which is a huge plus in my book), and I appreciated the light blocking blinds on the windows. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the free coffee bar is a great idea. I will definitely stay at the Dockside Inn again in the future!

Just stayed at the Dockside for our annual "birthday" weekend with my husband. Even though we have stayed on the Vineyard for years we had never known about the Dockside--a lovely, waterfront hotel in Oak Bluffs. The location is fantastic (right near the ferry stop), with views of the harbor and steps to all the happenings in Oak Bluffs. But, the best part was how friendly and welcoming Kathy and John (owners) were to us. We really felt "at home", yet the room was extremely clean and had nice amenities. So, best of both worlds--cozy, yet high end. The place also has a sunny guest snack, hang out room, and a hot tub (which we didn't use). Overall, a great option. We will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: Off season I recommend the water view rooms. On season these rooms may be a bit noisy since hotel is...

My husband and I will be staying at The Dockside Inn in June of this year and wanted some extra input on what room to choose. I am from Mass but havent been to MV in a good while and wanted some additional info about the Inn. We were in between choosing room 24 or room 35 so I left a voicemail last night asking about the rooms, views etc. The owner (John) called me back this morning. I wasnt able to call him back until this evening after work and to say he was helpful was an understatement! He walked me through each rooms amenities, where they were located on the property and description of water view. He even took time out of his evening not only to answer all of my questions but also took extra pictures of the rooms and what the water view consisted of from every vantage point. Needless to say, I was beyond pleased with his assistance and effort in making sure we had just the right accomadations we wanted. Room 35 is GORGEOUS, has beautiful water views and accomadates 3 people. Room 24 is also AMAZING with great water views but is more suited for 2 people. Since we didnt need the extra space we went with room 24 but I obvioulsy highly recomend either one. I saw an earlier review of Room 35 that wasnt very favorable and can can attest to the fact that isnt the case at all, its beautiful and had extra room to spare! We are going with my cousin and her husband and this is their 2nd trip to the Dockside Inn and they love it! I will follow up with another review after our stay but all I can say is John was the most helpful and kind person and obviously runs an amazing Inn, even from afar with customers in NC trying to make a simple room decision. We cant wait for June! Looking forward to my trip back home even more now! Thanks again for all your help John!!

Room Tip: Rooms 29, 35 and 24 are amazing!! Dont hesitate to ask if unsure about any other ones though! Will p...

These guests haven't even stayed at the Dockside Inn yet but they have already experienced the really exceptional customer service that we are well known for. John takes seriously his position as co-owner and our "Chief of Comfort' and it is reflected in a review such as this. We know Martha's Vineyard is a long way from home for many of our guests and, especially for those who are visiting the Vineyard for the first time, getting general questions answered about the island, as well as specific questions answered about our inn, is of the utmost importance. If you're gonna come all this way to stay with us, the least we can do is absolutely anything required to make your journey here, and your stay with us, as well-informed, convenient, and low-stress as possible. Welcome to the Dockside Inn Experience!
