The Attleboro House is in a central location in OB. It is walking distance from the ferry so need for a car. You could walk it if you don’t over pack and bus and taxi the island the remainder of your visit. Upon walking up to the front door you are greeted by a big wrap around porch with several rocking chairs and a wooden sign The Attleboro House. One night during my visit I sat on the porch for hours watching the boats coming in and out, all the tourists at the restaurants across the way and a beautiful Vineyard sunset while sipping wine. It is a simple place for those who enjoy simple pleasures. The main street of Circuit Ave is a hop and skip away and there is a great breakfast place Biscuits a minute walk away. The common area of the property is adorned in white wicker chairs and a few tourist magazines and brochures with a TV that is dated but you’re on island and really who turns on a tv anyway when you have such breathtaking scenery. Estelle is the inn keeper she is an 80 something year old woman who is still running the house basically on her own, her daughter helps out with housekeeping. You will find her in early evening on the back side of the porch in her swinging chair. Friendly, warm, inviting and always helpful. I had room 11 and couldn’t of been more pleased. I had a private porch and from lying in bed I could see the harbor. The room included two fans and no AC. I didn’t use either the ocean breeze did the job in the evenings. The rooms themselves are by no means modern but minimalist. The towels and bedding clean. No creepy crawlers anywhere. The shared bathroom was not once a hindrance on my 6 night stay. They were always clean and a newer shower head was in place. I would highly recommend The Attleboro House because the price is right, location perfect and has true historic island charm. My only dislike was I didn’t have another 6 nights.
