“So Good!”

We are so glad we picked this place. The outside does not look like a fine establishment... such a pleasant surprise when you go in. It has low lighting and great decor. The staff is so nice and welcoming. We ordered the fish and chips, tomato basil salad, and risotto balls. The food was hot and perfect. Would absolutely go back and highly recommend this restaurant!

“Worth A Visit!”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

My husband and I dined here and were not disappointed. The wait staff is excellent and the manager visits every table. I had the swordfish which was outstanding and my husband had a chicken tortellini that we both agreed was the best he's ever had. Everything is prepared with fresh ingredients and in a "healthy" manner - tortellini had a light pesto dressing versus the usual heavy cream sauce. Atmosphere is casual, although you may not think so, upon arrival, since the lighting is dim in the restaurant.

“Nice enough place but better to be had on the island”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

It's on the street leading directly from the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal - a very prominent location and it also factors highly in lots of reviews, but having spent a few days on the island and particularly down at Menemsha, I think there's better quality and value for money to be had at places like Larsen's or the Menemsha Fish Market. Of course what you don't get down there is a comfortable place to sit, or waiter service. While Oak Bluffs itself feels like the least touristy of the big towns on the island, this venue does seem a bit of a tourist hangout. The lobster roll is not priced on the menu - you get charged 'market price' so it can be a bit expensive - in my case $26.

Hi there! Thanks for joining us. The two locations you mentioned are world class authentic off-the-boat fish markets located about 20-30 minutes away in a small fishing village, with counter service for cooked items. While we love these fish markets we don't want readers to think that we are in the same business category or really up for any comparison. Chowder Co. is a full service sit down restaurant and bar in one of the main towns, with no fish for sale unless it is cooked and on a plate. :) The entire island is touristy for a few months but being open 363 days a year Chowder Co. is one of the most local-friendly, community oriented and affordable casual fine dining restaurants on the island! Thanks so much! ps- regarding the lobster roll, we serve a half pound hot buttered portion of perfect lobster on a grilled brioche bun and it is has been our most popular lunch item for years, and of course our server always gives the daily price before taking orders...thank you!!

Our most recent visit was @ the Chowder house.. I had the huge meatball. Too spicy for me. We
love the chowder and would love it if you would bring back the Ceasar salad. I'd love it if you would
serve the fish you use for Fish and chips in your fish sandwich

“Incredible Food”
Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

Hands down: the best lobster rolls & clam chowder on the island.

Chowder is made in small batches, cream based, thick and chunky without being overly rich. The generous lobster roll is big enough to split with a companion and served hot dressed with butter is simplicity is perfection.
