The Orleans Public House has a small but innovative menu. I started with the soup du jour, a spicy and delicious Thai coconut soup with lemongrass, mushrooms, curry, and corn. My companion and I shared a garden salad which was generous (at $12, it should be!) but unremarkable. My pan-seared dayboat scallops were perfectly caramelized to bring out their sweetness. They were served with bacon lardons and watercress, both superfluous in my estimation, over a bed of excellent polenta with chives. My friend enjoyed his beer-battered cod, served with "pommes frites" which were actually potato wedges. Prices were on the high side, but the food was good and the service very attentive.

Had dinner there recently without knowing a thing about it. A great waitress helped us out and delivered the food. Dining room large and not crowded with tables, nice looking outdoor seating/bar area at the rear. Thumbs-up.

The Orleans Public House was a very pleasant surprise. The decor is clean, fresh, and attractive. Our wait staff, Molly, was personable, attentive, helpful, and an excellent server. We asked her to space our appetizer and main course and she did so, beautifully. We started with two of their special cocktails -- the Bees Knees which is a delicious gin and St. Germaine martini, and the Lower Cape Collins which is vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup, topped with Cabernet. It was also delicious and very reminiscient of the vodka sangria served in Zihuatenejo, Mexico. Our starters were terrific -- special salad with grilled romaine, apples, bacon, and Great Hills blue cheese dressing, and fried green tomato, goat cheese, and smoked eggplant puree sliders. The entrees certainly didn't disappoint! The dayboat scallops were cooked to perfection and served on a flavorful corn and cheddar polenta, and sprinkled with house-smoked bacon. The salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and served atop al dente rigatoni bathed in a light and delicious alfredo sauce. Both servings were very generous and a good value. All of the wines are available by the glass. It was a wonderful dinner in a welcoming atmosphere. We are locals and were very happy to hear that they will be open year round. We appreciate their farm to table philosophy and look forward to their fall and winter menus.

We tried this restaurant, which has only been open a month, and had a good experience. With a restaurant this new, you expect some shortcomings and there were a few. For example, they were out of the nightly special before 7 on a Saturday. However, overall we had a good experience. The food was fresh and well-prepared, although I thought the the chicken and bacon galantine was somewhat lacking in flavor. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. I found the ambiance somewhat stark and noticed that there were far fewer tables than the space would have allowed, which would generally be a positive, but in this case contributed to the overall lack of warmth in the room. Generally, I am optimistic that this place will join the ranks of the several good dining options in Orleans and would certainly recommend it to those looking for a new place to try.
