We came here for lunch (and dinner last week) with family -- clearly better than average for upscale pub fare on Cape.

Location is good, on West Road area in Orleans. Its in an old jailhouse (renovated :) which is cool, as they have a fun motif, iron bars, etc. The food is basically good upscale bar food with some nicer entrees as well for the grown up crowd (and there is a full childrens' menu for kids with everything a typical 7 year old would want).

Salads were all good, burger was good, lobster roll was meh, and sandwiches were all recommended by our group. Service was generally friendly but quite slow.

No reservations or call ahead is also not great, but still, this is better than some of the other awful pub food (Laurino's etc) that we've had earlier in the week. Prices were also generally fair.

Recommended with or without kids, but be aware there might be a wait.

Going by The Old Jailhouse Tavern my guy knew that he wanted to go there. The atmosphere inside, stone walls and atmosphere were really nice. We thought we were lucky when the bar seats were emptying out when we arrived. We waited in our bar seats for at least ten to fifteen minutes before the bartender (she was very busy) had a chance to ask us what we would like to drink. She did give me a wine list and sample of the house Chardonney. We decided to go with a meal instead of a sandwich because the menu sounded so good!
I ordred the Love of the Sea special (the name was something like that). Unfortunately it was not as good as I had expected. The sauce was not as tasty as I had hoped for. There were shrimp and scallops but NO LOBSTER! The pasta was so overcooked that is was mushy. So dissapointed in this $29 dollar entree
My guy ordered the Swordfish. There was not as much flavor or seasoning as he would have liked. The asparagus were tough to chew (not trimmed enough) and he was only able to eat part of them. For the money this restaurant unfortunealtyl was not what we expected. We will not be going back.

We stopped here to watch the World Cup finals and have a quick bite to eat. Service was good, but the food was very bland. I would not eat here again.

Hi Sonya,
I’m glad you enjoyed the service you received yesterday. I’m sorry you didn't equally enjoy your food. We tried our best to accommodate the requested preparation change to the Finbars Fish Tacos you ordered. Our fish tacos (based on the way they are normally prepared) were made famous at our last restaurant. These legendary tacos continue to be a huge hit now at our new restaurant - The Jailhouse Tavern. We were very happy to have been able to accommodate all our guests yesterday with a comfortable location to watch the last game of the World Cup.

All the best.

It was our next to last day on Cape Cod and we were spending the hot afternoon geocaching about the Orleans, Mass area. We used our iPhones to try to locate a seafood restaurant at a harbor when we happened to pass by the Old Jailhouse Tavern.

Our search ended up at a restaurant that was crowded beyond belief, so we left in disappointment when I remembered the Jailhouse Tavern that we had passed, so we went back there for a cool refreshing drink at the bar.

When we arrived the place was practically empty. It was open and we were quite taken by the place. Large stone walls and an expansive bar. We we're given immediate attention and had our drinks in short order. Because we had hoped for seafood at a seafood restaurant we declined the offer to order food.

After our first round of drinks we realized that we were too hungry to go searching again for a seafood restaurant so we decided to look at the menu. My GF ordered the salad and I opted for the Classic Reuben. Both were very very good.

All in all we liked the Old Jailhouse Tavern very much and would not hesitate to come back again for a more formal dinner should we find ourselves once again in Orleans.
