There were some good exhibits when we visited. But, I found the building awkward and noisy. The glass exhibit was scanty and dimly lit. Rooms are often separated by heavy closed doors, which running kids kept slamming. In addition, I have never seen so many people loudly talking - in person or on cell phones -- or unsupervised, unruly children running around. There was no staff around. It all made it impossible to focus on the art, so I left after a short visit. (this museum seems to cater to kids and does have some children's programs, if that's what you're looking for.)

Went to see this modestly scaled, downtown museum because of its exhibition of contemporary American Indian art that had been influenced by traditional Indian art--and were very glad we did. Also enjoyed the (small) permanent collection of objects, including Hudson River School landscapes (by all the biggies), and the child-friendly aquarium in the basement. When we arrived a community theater production of "Cinderella" was about to get underway in the museum's Auditorium, so we had the fun of watching little kids dressed as "mice," and teenagers in Evil Stepsister garb, grabbing last-minute water and snacks from the vending machine before going onstage.

Great museum to take the family to - especialy young children. Special exhibits geared to the under 10 set. The Museum has up to date small meaningful exhibits to draw in the adult / art crowd. Check the website for the current listings before going. Right now there are a number excellent exhibits - Rethinking American Indian Art [through Jan 2013] - Liz Whitney Quisgard: Kaleidoscope [through Oct 21] - The Big Picture: Berkshire Museum Camera Club 75th Anniversary [through Sept 15] - and Tom Patti: Echoes in Space [through Oct 8].

I was so intrigued by the art at this museum. It featured the work of an artist I had never heard of and was so impressive, I did not want to leave. I could have stayed hours looking at the work but the museum was closing and so we had to depart. There was a nice assortment of other interesting items and this is a really nice gem to come upon in the town of Pittsfield. Go if you are anywhere in the area. You will be delighted.

Took 1.5 and 2.5. Saw aquarium and science hands on floor. Loved it. We are going back, just for us!
