"Berkshire Collects" opened January 25 and will be there until May 11, 2014. Had heard it was a great eclectic exhibit of things people in the Berkshires collect and is so true. People do collect the darndest things from clothes brushes to ink wells to pocket books and mini books even food grinders! Display in four galleries is funky fun on a dreary end of winter day. The exhibit just adds character to the existing superb exhibits that have something for everyone.

Interesting museum with an eclectic mix of attractions. The aquarium was better than expected, especially the frogs. The Hudson River School paintings were nice. Some of the hands-on exhibits looked like they would be good for kids. The Berkshire Innovators exhibit was OK. A lot of reviewers raved about the paper exhibit, but we didn't see it so I don't think it's there anymore. There was one section of the museum that was closed off while an exhibit was being set up. I wouldn't plan to spend the whole day here, but it's a nice place to go for a couple of hours, especially if you have kids with you.

Very welcoming to toddlers. Friendly staff upon arrival. Just enough exhibits to interest a 2 and 4 year old. Many stations for them to explore including a play area with blocks. They really enjoyed the art station and imagination station. Cute gift shop too. Highly recommend for a few hours of fun with kids.

We vacationed in the Berkshires in Oct & stopped into the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield one rainy afternoon toward the end of our stay. We were pleasantly surprised. Like many other things we found in the area, the museum focused in quality – presenting a small number of things very well – not so much the big is beautiful philosophy of so many museums. The paper art collection was very interesting & the aquarium was an unanticipated pleasant surprise. There were lots of kids there the day we visited, but the logistics were amazingly well executed & the presence of so many groups of youngsters was never a distraction from the content of the museum. We have no idea how long it rained, because once inside this little gem we stayed for over 4 hours.

We have been to this museum many times and wanted to stop by to the annual Festival of Trees. The theme was Past, Present, & Future and it didn't seem like an inspirational theme since the trees were underwhelming this year. My children liked the typewriters at the end where visitors are encouraged to write a letter to the museum, but many of the old typewriters were not working. We did enjoy the artwork that was displayed between the trees. However, what made our visit interesting is the redo of some of their galleries that hold the museum's permanent collection on the second floor. They have displayed items in a Cabinet of Curiosity theme and it is fun to see a Norman Rockwell painting in its shipping case in the same room as insect boxes, an animal skeleton and other interesting objects from the museum's art, history, and natural science collection.
