A perfect afternoon. We took the 2PM boat out of Plymouth. We saw at least seven humpback whales. The boat and crew were excellent. There was a very informative naturalist on board.

We joined the whale watching tour on 4th Aug 14, which was set for an up to 4 hour trip from 2pm. The boat, crew and onboard naturalists were excellent, as was the circa 2 hour journey to a point East of Provincetown where we hoped to see some whales. We saw whales all right, around 60 or more humpback, finback and minke whales! It was one of the best days for a long time according to the naturalist with our first encounter being a humpback and calf which was truly amazing, but then we saw whale after whale for the next hour or so, including 3 humpback whales surfacing to feed, just feet ahead of the boat.

An amazing experience which may not be repeated on every trip, but what we really liked and respected was the willingness of the Captain to stay out way beyond the scheduled trip length so we could all make the most of the opportunity. We returned to port almost 5 hours after setting out, it felt truly special and like we were guests on board, not just customers.

A great experience with a great team, would recommend this trip to all and would recommend Captain John to get the best of the opportunity. A big tip - take extra layers, even if it's hot in port as it can get very breezy out to sea.

I've lived on Cape Cod for most of my life and gone on a fair amount of whale watches. They all take you to Stellwagon Bank no matter where you depart from as that is where the whales migrate to and feed each season. This is by far the best season for whale watching and it just so happened that Plymouth had availability on the day my family was able to go and it did not disappoint. A nice clean vessel with an informed Naturalist. Because Plymouth takes a bit longer to get out to the bank, don't be discouraged. The voyage gives you a big payoff once that first spout is spotted. The boat stopped and suddenly we found ourselves surrounded by at least 3 types of whales. Finbacks, Humpbacks & Minke (sp?). There had to be at least 30 of them as you could see flukes and fins from port or starboard, bow or stern. On past watches, there would be excitement if you saw 5 whales and a fluke (tail) show as the whale went down for a dive. This time was unprecedented as you would see 2 or 3 whales together at a time with their huge mouthes wide open as they fed on krill & fish. Amazing to see. The vocal reaction from adults & kids was nothing but awe & clapping & ooh's & ah's. Perfect for any age. To see these enormous mammals in their natural environment was something to behold. There wasn't a bad place to see a whale no matter where you stood or sat. The Naturalist said herself that this type of sighting this season may never be seen again, so anyone thinking of going needs to consider going very soon. The Plymouth waterfront is also a great tourist destination and my only complaint is that the parking fills up fast. If you plan on going, arrive an hour early at least and buy your tickets online, however you will still need to stand in line to get your printed copy transferred into a ticket in order to board the boat.
Couldn't recommend it more!!!

We have been many times and never been disappointed. No unnecessary delays, no overcrowding of boats, no shortchanging you on viewing time once you get out to prime siting area. Excellent presentations re whales, birds, and the area. Excellent at spotting whales. Pilots are skilled at positioning to maximize easy viewing and still protect whales. On our trip two days ago, we are seeing as many as 8 whales at a time within easy viewing distance. We must have seen in excess of 100 surfacings. We frequently saw whales surfacing in pairs with mouths open. We saw all three types of whales common to the area. The staff said it was easily one of the best outings in 30 years. Very highly recommended.

Because of a bad weather forecast (which was wrong-turned out sunny and warm) the boat wasn't very full. So there was lots of room to move around. The trip out and back are rocky and windy, but once out to the whale watching area, it was slow and calmer. We saw a mother humpback and her calf, and another female, The staff were great in explaining about the whales, their habits and habitat; they sure knew their stuff. Once we found whales, we stayed a reasonable distance away. After the first sighting, we thought "that's it, we're heading back". But, no, we went further on to see another whale. The captain and crew took their time and didn't rush the adventure. We had a great time.
