This hotel has the potential to be great: It is in a perfect location for exploring the area, it has a fantastic themed Mayflower pool and slide (which our kids loved!) and boasts a lovely restaurant (Hearth and Kettle) serving great food/breakfasts. However, this is where the positives end. If I were to describe the main body of the hotel I would use the words shabby and tired. The rooms, carpets throughout, lift and furnishings need a complete refurb. It is so dated it's like stepping back in time (and not in a good way!) Having said all this housekeeping were very efficient and we always had an abundance of towels, both for the room and pool. We were disappointed that there was no in-room safety deposit box though, and the air conditioning is only just adequate. Also, front desk staff gladly obliged when approached, but made no attempt to help with luggage on arrival or departure and didn't always greet you when walking through the lobby with a 'good morning'. This costs nothing and whatever rating a hotel has it should always try to be hospitable. Lots of good features, but lacks attention to detail to warrant more than three stars.

Room Tip: Ask for some kind of view, we stayed for two weeks and looked at a brick wall covered in ivy for all of that time!

We live nearby but were celebrating with friends and thought it best to stay over night in Plymouth. I was expecting a dated, dingy, motel-like experience (not sure why I had that impression) but I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and quality of the furnishings, linens, bed, etc. We did not spend much time in our room (only to change clothes and sleep) but would stay here again and plan to do so in the near future. Also, we enjoyed one last cocktail at the bar and were pleased with the prices and the sweet bartender who took good care of us. I almost forgot, we were originally told that there was a two night minimum. We called again closer to the date and they had rooms available and allowed us to stay one night only.

On our recent vacation in July, we had reservations for three rooms at another local hotel. The rooms were unsatisfactory to us. We went riding around looking for another place to stay for the next two nights. We found the John Carver Inn. That's really where the magic began. Not only did they have 3 rooms available, they were able to accommodate our room preferences. We were traveling with folks with disabilities, needing adjoining rooms etc.
We were greeted by the front desk manager Karen Blanchard. Karen was such a kind, compassionate and the most understanding person that we have ever encountered at the front desk. It was all that and a bag of chips! Rooms were nice, housekeeping was excellent. We ate at the adjoining restaurant for our meals. Taking care of a table of 7 with separate checks, was not a problem. Food was awesome!
We loved it so much, we are returning in the fall.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is where the pool is. We were on the third floor away from the elevator. Very quiet.

My family and I stayed here during a trip to Plymouth. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was fine, spacious and clean. The beds were a bit too soft. The décor was nice but a bit dated. We had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and that was very good. The location was ideal. Our touring began at a historic building just across the street. Everything we wanted to see, except Plimoth Plantation, was within a few blocks.

If you are looking for a nice place to stay while touring the sites of Plymouth, I recommend it.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor, looking over the back of the hotel. The view was not nice but we were only there to sleep, not for the view.

On a spur of the moment road trip, we did not have hotels booked in advance. Arriving in Plymouth mid-evening on Wednesday 8/6, we tried a couple of hotels on the waterfront, but found them unreasonably expensive. One of them alerted us to a special that was being offered by The John Carver Inn for that night. We were greeted by Angela at the front desk who was absolutely delightful and couldn't have been more helpful. She had us checked into an immaculate room within minutes. Like a couple of kids, we had to check out the pool immediately - huge fun! We ate dinner & breakfast at the hotel, and on each occasion were served quickly & efficiently by warm and friendly staff. The food was delicious and great value. The room & hallways were spotless, and, I thought, very tastefully decorated (I did not think they looked at all tired, as another guest did). The bed was unbelievably comfortable. The hotel was extremely convenient for the town center and for the seafront and all attractions. Check out the next morning was also very efficient. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we thought we might try their sister hotel, the Cape Codder that evening. Karen at the front desk went above and beyond for us, calling through to see if they had a room available at a rate we could afford. Our only complaint was that we didn't arrive early enough to take full advantage of all that the hotel offered! Thank you, John Carver Inn, for a delightful stay.
