The combination of visiting P-Town and Herring Cove Beach make for a great day trip on the Cape. Park your car right next to where you want to sit on the beach. Bay-like waves, clear, crisp water, excellent near new facilities, bike trails for biking around the Race Point areas from the parking lot, wonderful scenery and views, close to town...a "must do" for Cape Codders and if you are visiting

This beach is Ptown's worst -- very rocky, narrow, and almost no waves. Plus, you have to walk across a MARSH to get to the gay part. At high tide the marsh is underwater, and at low tide it's muddy. I don't understand why gays are so desperate to run the gauntlet just for a pseudo-nude beach. This is Ptown: there are pseudo-nude gays everywhere. Traipsing through a marsh to reach a poor quality beach is from the back-of-the-bus era. It's 2013. I'm not hiking through mud. Go to Race Point or Long Point for quality beaches. Skip this sad place.

Such a quiet, idyllic spot...especially comfortable for the LGBT community if you head to the left (I think that's east, but in P'town who knows).

We only had one day to explore the Cape Cod National Seashore. The guy at the Salt Pond Visitor Center suggested his own favourite one-day outings and we followed his advice. With our day-pass, we visited 3 beaches on our one day. He had suggested we end with Herring Cove Beach at sunset. Beside Herring Cove was Race Point beach but he said because of where Herring Cove was situated, we would be the last to see the sun set.

Turns out we were not the only ones there to see the sun set. There were no more swimmers in the water but small groups of people dotted the beach. There were even a few camp fires. It was obvious people were there to see the sun set as seats were turned towards where this beautiful orange ball of fire was touching the horizon. It was very peaceful and as the sun dipped below the horizon, the was soft applause from people on the beach, as if thanking Mother Nature for a great show. How nice when something so simple is treated with gratitude.

The sky continue to change colors after the sun went down. It was a short but gorgeous visit. The guy at the Visitor Center sure knew what he was talking about.
