As someone who had never been to P-Town before, I relied on a friend's knowledge and reccomendations. The first thing he did was to book reservations at the Chicago House. He had stayed there many times before and called the owners to choose a room. He booked two small rooms upstairs for us and told me the cost - which was much less than I thought it was going to cost.

We arrived in P-Town around noon and were met by Chris and Dennis (the owners). It sometimes takes me a long time to feel at home around new people, but both men made me feel like I too were returning for a visit. They truly made me feel as if I were a close friend. They made reccomendations for what I should see, where we could eat, and told us about many events happening around town.

I loved the Chicago House - it is an old house, but I don't know what the previous posters were talking about. There are no rolling floors. As the house is old, it does have some planking floor - but to me that was one of my favorite things to experience. The rest of the house? Nice carpeting, clean, welcoming, and warm. The bathroom upstairs was clean, nice size and plenty of hot water! The bedroom - I had a room with a twin bed - was freshly made up, nicely decorated and cleaner than the room I had in Disney the week before.

On the second day of my visit, we had a pouring rain. Chris and Dennis gave me an umbrella to walk around town with. (I had never thought to bring one along...) They also gave me ideas for what I could do on a rainy day. Again - they treated me like an old friend and made me feel welcome.

As there are other guests, every expereince will be different. But on my stay everyone there said good morning, chatted with each other on the porch, and exchanged information about different happenings. One of the guys staying there hung out with us for the day/night and we all had fun running around town.

Breakfast was a great continental start. Freshly made muffins - Chris was asked for the recipe by a few people (that's how good they were!), cereal, bagels, yogurt, fruit and juices gave us all a perfect start to the day.

One of the great things about the Chicago House is that it is right in the middle of town, yet a block off of Commercial so you are removed enough from the bustle going on if you desire more of a mellow day. The CH was just a few minute walk to the ferry.

Would I stay there again? On my second day there I texted a different friend and told him that next summer we are going to come to P-Town for a long weekend and that we were staying in the CH. I can't wait to come back and stay at the Chicago House.

The other reviews are correct to a degree - the location is great and the people are very nice. So nice in fact, that I hate to say the accommodations were sub-par.

I did not realize the house had pets, especially since there is a no pet policy was explained on the phone, but apparently they do. They did not mention there are pets in the house when I made the reservation. I happen to be allergic - I was congested for the whole visit and the house definitely has a pet smell to it, even the bedrooms. The floors in the place were very uneven and I even tripped a few times and wound up being careful where i stepped because of the extreme slopes and broken floorboards.

We selected a room with A/C - which seemed to shake the whole room - but didn't really cool the room down. The bathroom was disgusting - I tried not to touch anything in there. The room felt "dirty", I do not think that it was well vacuumed before we go there - if at all. My socks were filthy after walking around on the carpet. The bed did seem fresh and clean - thankfully. Otherwise I really would have just packed up and gone home. The free (included) internet would not work for me, though perhaps I was doing something wrong - I didn't bother to complain, I didn't want to spend any time there anyhow!

Either the other guests who have stayed here are very polite and didn't want to say something negative, or maybe it was just the innkeepers writing the reviews themselves. Either way, know that I'm writing an honest review here, and take all of what I say into account before making a reservation.

I will say the breakfast was delicious, and the hosts hospitable, so I do feel somewhat guilty writing this, but do want other travellers to know what they are in for.

We feel we have to respond to this review mainly because these guests choose to take the time to write this review, but never brought up their complaints directly to us.

These guests found us through a last minute availability site that links to our web site. Our web site clearly states that we do not allow our guests to bring their pets because we have 2 dogs and a cat of our own.

With regard to the sloping floor. Our home was built in the early 1800's. It is an old home with old home charm. While it has settled in the last 200 years there are no tripping hazards or broken floor boards.

As for the AC. The following guests that stayed in that room brought up the buzzing the AC was making. We repositioned the foam rubber and the unit quieted right down. The unit was also on the economy setting that will only lower the temperature to 69 degrees. Both issues were easily solved.

The bathroom was cleaned the morning before their arrival. The floor and the shower stall are older and my not be pretty, but they were clean.

As for the cleanliness of the bedroom, the room was very recently painted, the carpet was steamed cleaned in the spring and at a minimum it is vacuumed and dusted after each guest stay.

We gladly take the time to assist any of our guests with accessing our free wireless internet.

Regarding the comment about us writing our own reviews, we find this ridiculous and unnecessarily negative. We will leave this statement up to our hundreds of guests that continue to spend their vacations year after year with us.

Well I stayed here because I finished a bike tour from Boston to Ptown and these guys gave the group a discounted rate. I like to support others who support the charities in the community. While other ptown places offer bike rentals, these guys are close enough to other rental places don't spend extra because the others include it. I had a twin room, with a view and share bath, but everything clean, breakfast on the porch offers great eye candy of the boys walking home from their nights at the dick docks, and chris and dennis are great. would totally stay here again. if I was to spend a summer writing a masterpiece I would upgrade to a bigger room. but for a night of fun, and affordable yeah, do it. then take the ferry home for work. ;-)

I've only heard about P-town for years and never went until now! Stayed at the Chicago House on Winslow Street (literally in the center of town) - Chris & Dennis the owners of the house were great. They have very roomy sleeping quarters, two adorable dogs and an inviting attitude.

They had great information about the center of town, restaurant and night life.

Prices are great too.

P-town only has the most friendly people working in every store or shop - great art galleries and plenty of kid friendly things to do.

Can not wait to come back!
