As someone who had never been to P-Town before, I relied on a friend's knowledge and reccomendations. The first thing he did was to book reservations at the Chicago House. He had stayed there many times before and called the owners to choose a room. He booked two small rooms upstairs for us and told me the cost - which was much less than I thought it was going to cost.
We arrived in P-Town around noon and were met by Chris and Dennis (the owners). It sometimes takes me a long time to feel at home around new people, but both men made me feel like I too were returning for a visit. They truly made me feel as if I were a close friend. They made reccomendations for what I should see, where we could eat, and told us about many events happening around town.
I loved the Chicago House - it is an old house, but I don't know what the previous posters were talking about. There are no rolling floors. As the house is old, it does have some planking floor - but to me that was one of my favorite things to experience. The rest of the house? Nice carpeting, clean, welcoming, and warm. The bathroom upstairs was clean, nice size and plenty of hot water! The bedroom - I had a room with a twin bed - was freshly made up, nicely decorated and cleaner than the room I had in Disney the week before.
On the second day of my visit, we had a pouring rain. Chris and Dennis gave me an umbrella to walk around town with. (I had never thought to bring one along...) They also gave me ideas for what I could do on a rainy day. Again - they treated me like an old friend and made me feel welcome.
As there are other guests, every expereince will be different. But on my stay everyone there said good morning, chatted with each other on the porch, and exchanged information about different happenings. One of the guys staying there hung out with us for the day/night and we all had fun running around town.
Breakfast was a great continental start. Freshly made muffins - Chris was asked for the recipe by a few people (that's how good they were!), cereal, bagels, yogurt, fruit and juices gave us all a perfect start to the day.
One of the great things about the Chicago House is that it is right in the middle of town, yet a block off of Commercial so you are removed enough from the bustle going on if you desire more of a mellow day. The CH was just a few minute walk to the ferry.
Would I stay there again? On my second day there I texted a different friend and told him that next summer we are going to come to P-Town for a long weekend and that we were staying in the CH. I can't wait to come back and stay at the Chicago House.
