Great economical get away in a perfect location. This hotel is one of the local lobby bars with piano sing alongs. I stayed on the in room 1 which is directly above the lobby so if you plan on sleeping before midnight...not the best room. Honestly it added a great twist to a very fun week. Rooms are very basic but the location is terrific. Rent a bike and cruise the town with ease.

I've stayed here several times before BUT this will be my last time. The room is in a major need of a renovation, when I saw the room I was very disappointed in how disrepair it was in. The receptionist wasn't very accommodating, look else wear.

We had the best girls weekend in P Town and are so glad that we chose the Gifford House to stay. Dave and David were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and met it's purpose of a place to lie your head at the end of a night of partying. There is a bonus free continental breakfast that was more than adequate. I would definately stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bay view

We came to the gifford house for one night and it was a great stay. The rooms are simple but for a beach town thats all you need. It is very gay orientated for obvious reasons (its in P-town) so if your not ok with gay don't stay here. I would stay again. It is literally right up the street from commercial street where all the attractions are so it only takes about one minute of walking to get to the life of P-town. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean. Don't expect much in luxury but it does have a very welcoming homey feel.

Neither my wife or myself knew anything about provincetown before we arrived there in the dark in April, we had nowhere planed to stay and so we asked one of the locals, he looked at my wife and then at me and said "do you mind whats on the walls?" We said no and so he directed us to the gifford house. Upon arrival i entered the reception to find a note directing me to the bar to book in. The guy behind the bar was a dead ringer for Richard Dreyfuss from jaws. He happily helped me with the booking in and my wife and i went up to our room.
The room was clean and tidy with on-suit bathroom and tv, when we had settled we went back down to the bar for a few drinks and we sat in front of a fabulous log burning fire to enjoy these, it was at this point that my wife said " you know when that man asked if i minded what was on the walls i didn't understand what he meant but i do now and i have no complaints at all", it was then that i looked around and started to laugh because everywhere i looked there was pictures of naked or semi-naked men, wasnt what i was expecting at all. We were treated with the utmost respect by everyone there and i really enjoyed our stay, in fact i wouldn't hesitate in going back, if you have a problem with homosexuals of any sort i dont think provincetown is for you, if however you want to see a beautiful place with wonderful people and want to enjoy yourself with friendly people go to the gifford house and have a pint

I have a love/hate relationship with the Gifford House. I can never decide if i'm charmed or digusted by it's "hasn't changed in 30 years" atmosphere. I mean, literally nothing had changed there since i started going to Ptown regularly in the late 80s. I bet nothing has moved an inch in the place in all that time, certainly nothing's been updated.

And that's the rub. Not update = cheap, and the Gifford House is one of the extremely rare affordable Inns in Ptown, so at least there's that.

If you know what you are getting into, and you're fine with dated rooms where you would never want to use a black-light to check for stains, then this place is fine. Don't expect "luxe" anything and you can't be disappointed.

That said there are a couple things that are unforgivable. No bath products? At all? Just slim generic soaps? Come on! I'll pay the 50 cents extra a night for shampoo and body wash bottles!!

And they also are very cagey about saying you can't hear the bar in the annex, but you "might" hear it in the main house. It's loud EVERY night here until 1am. Period. Again, if you are going out every night, so what. But be warned.

+
Cheap
Large rooms with lots of bed options

Free admission to purgatory
Parking
Good water pressure

Loud !!!!
Dated
Hard beds and pillows
Expanded cont b'fast with no expansion (no yogurt, no meats, lots of bread )
No hot tub
Slight "Ick" factor
No bath products except soap

Room Tip: stay as far away from the porchside and lobby bars as you can - back of the Annex is quietest.

It's one of the larger, if not largest, Guest Houses in the area. Location is perfect being only one block from the popular Commercial Drive with restaurants & shopping. Like most of Ptown, clientele was mostly all gay when we were there. Only 4-5 blocks to the the popular Boatslip for Tea Dance and Pool time during the day. There is a gay bar in the basement of the property that has an underwear night one day during the week and is located 0-4 blocks from most all other gay bars. So LOCATION is amazing! Really good value pricing for the rooms based on location and size. Inside the room isn't much to rave about. They do appear older and dated, it's clean and has what you need to sleep and shower. For the price & location, it's really hard to beat, so I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors and on the other end of the hotel from the bar in the hotel would be more qui...
