And explained The weather was a bit "iffy" heading towards the date we had booked our trip, but Chad kept in regular touch with us to keep us updated on likelihood of getting out, or perhaps needing to rearrange days etc. We did manage to get out on the day booked, and what a brilliant time we had.
Chad explained where we'd be headed and we set off on a rather bumpy sea to look for the whales. He was in regular radio contact with other and they all seemed to help each other to locate the whales. We got to see a number of humpbacks in different locations, some with babies - it was fabulous! Chad pointed out where to look, and explained what was happening. He was as excited as us to see the whales jumping and feeding: with the smaller boat we see able to get sooo close, it was really an amazing trip we shall never forget.
Highly recommend this tour!

I have been on at least 50 commercial whale watches (yes, I love whales!) and SeaSalt Charters has been the most amazing experience of them all! You get an up close and uninterrupted (no one pushing you out of the way to get a look) trip off shore to marvel at these magnificent creatures. Chad knows his stuff, keeps you safe and is very flexible to work around the weather. Don't miss out.. Book
your trip today.. It is a million times worth it!!!!! Emily -Ohio

Having been on many of the larger whale watching charters, I thought a private charter would be a pretty amazing experience! After much research, I booked with SeaSalt Charters out of Provincetown and so glad I did! The trip was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! There were an abundance of Humpbacks feeding on the sand lance in the waters. They spent no time under water, before their wide-open mouths were surfacing out of the water over and over again. It was an absolutely exhilarating experience to be so close and at water level with these gentle majestic giants of the sea! The owner, Capt. Chad Avellar brings years of experience to the table and is a responsible whale watch operator who participates in the Whale Sense program. His communication was top notch every step of the way. A Naturalist joined us on our trip who answered questions we had and explained about the whale behaviors we saw. So far this season Chad has had a 100% success rate with whale sightings. Thanks so much for an experience way beyond our expectations! If you have been on a few larger commercial charters and are considering a private charter, I highly recommend SeaSalt Charters! Very pleased, worth every penny! http://www.seasaltcharters.com/

i must say everyone concern was pretty sure this trip was going to have to be cancelled or rescheduled. The weather was not looking good. Thank god the night before i told Chad to contact me as soon as he saw the weather for the next day. at 6:09 i got a text message. Called him as soon as i realized what woke me. The weather at the moment was great but was expected to turn around 11 or so. It was gonna be really hard for us to reschedule since we were not staying in the area so i immediately woke the husband and 3 kids and had them in the car so fast it must have set records :-) after a 2 hr drive we got to the boat and set right out. We are go grateful to Chad for working with us and our hectic schedule. He could have soo easily just said no to the whole trip. Bc as nice as it was when we left the weather Changed sooo fast once we were out there. it got foggy and choppy like the snap of a finger.
But it was sooo worth it. When we got out to the feeding area we saw what looked like a line for miles of whales blowing air. As we got closer it was so amazing. you didn't really know where to look. We were the only boat out so we had the whole place to our self's.
As i said the weather turned fast so we stuck pretty close to one pod of 5 or 6. one of whom was a very very playful baby. At one point there were air bubbles very very close to the boat. We thought they might abandon the area due to how close it was to us BUT they didn't and we got an up close and personal show of a life time. Just wish we had better pictures to show for it.
Chad kept us out as long as he could. Though bc of the weather it was not the normal 2 hrs. I can't wait to try this again and hopefully have better weather and more time. We do not regret the rush to keep our date. we do not regret not waiting for better weather. That would have thrown the whole rest of our vacation off. Things worked out near perfect as they were. As a matter of fact Chad told us not to expect such a show the next time we went. Just wish we lived close enough to go again soon bc this season is soo unusual from everything I've read

After a good bit of research online our family group of four adults decided to book a private whale watch trip with Captain Chad Avellar, owner and operator of SeaSalt Charters. After initially contacting him online we spoke by phone to work out the details and found Chad to be genuinely interested in providing the best experience possible when booking a tour with him. We were in contact by phone and email regularly during the month ahead of our planned May date and in fact made a last minute change to our plans, due to weather, on the day we arrived on the Cape after talking with Chad.
Arriving at MacMillan Pier in Provincetown or Ptown as it is locally known we had no trouble locating Chad and his boat at its floating dock. After introductions we boarded his 28 foot Parker that's powered by twin 250 Yamahas. The boat has a 9'6" beam, a head and very large stern cockpit outfitted with comfortable deck chairs and plenty of room for four adults to get comfortable. The Parker will fly and is extremely maneuverable so being experienced boaters we found the high speed runs out to the Stellwagen Banks and back to be an exhilarating ride.
Once we arrived we were treated to a two hour up close and personal adventure with a lot of whales. Some minke and fin whales at first but then numerous humpbacks that put on a great show of tail and pec slaps, head lunges and the most exciting surface behavior, breaching. Some of this action taking place very near the boat. Just before heading in we were visited by two extremely large basking sharks that passed just feet from the boat. Our good luck at being surrounded by whales was due in part to a confluence of two events that no one can control. Great weather and as we later found out, the beginning of what looks to be one of the best whale watching seasons in some time due to the arrival of many whales feeding on a very abundant supply of sand lances, a small fish that the whales eat tons of each day. Chad's expertise at what he does is the third and equally important factor in the making of a good whale day. There is probably no one more experienced in Ptown than he is at finding whales. Everyone agrees that luck and uncontrollable events certainly play a part in how good a whale watching day might play out but having the experience that a guide like Chad Avellar brings will certainly tip the scales in your favor.
