The Mayflower Cafe is an old standby in this beautiful town. We live here but have not eaten here in years; thankfully, we were not disappointed. We were seated immediately in this slightly funky restaurant and were welcomed by friendly staff. I ordered the fish casserole of scallops, whitefish and shrimp with a Ritz cracker stuffing; my partner ordered the Portuguese fish and chips. Both were fabulous. The scallops were outstanding; and the Ritz cracker stuffing was out of this world. My partner's fish and chips were crispy, fresh and wonderful. This is probably the least expensive (decent) restaurant in Provincetown. There is little ambiance, other than listening to and watching the chefs at work. Bottom line: The Mayflower Cafe is a perfect place for a decent meal with great service at an excellent price. Not the place for a romantic evening, but perfect for most any other time.

Sure it's convenient on the main walking street and the prices are OK for the daily specials.

but the food is terrible.

The simple fish sandwich came with very thin filletes batterfried to a crisp 99% batter 1 % fish that would break apart like matchsticks out the sides of the bun. Way too much surface area for deep frying.

The chowder was as tasteless as they come with hardly a hint of the sea among the milk and flower. The clams were there (I think) but it was overwhelmed with the milk vs the stock.

Have eaten here once before - last May after a show - and the food is still GREAT!! The Portuguese Chicken was delicious!! As I said to my spouse: "That was damn good!!!"
His Pork Chops were also good, MUCH better that he expected. Marinated in vinegar, garlic and oil with other spices. 3 large boneless pork chops, served with choice of potato.
Portions are good and prices reasonable. Service exceptional.

Stopped in last minute for a lobster roll and fried scallops. The roll was yummy priced right and came with a TON of fries and slaw. The scallops were delicious!also came with fries and slaw. Extremely light on the coating but with a delicate spice blend that set the flavor o the scallops off wonderfully. Definitely a gem and for ptown... The prices were extremely reasonable!!

Ok, so we had the boiled lobsters and nothing else! Best price in PTown for lobsters throughout the season. We were a little dissappointed that our meal didn't come with the standard hot rolls as a starter. Don't know if this is because of the early season, or because of the economy and they cut back.
We will keep going back, as the menu is very extensive and in large family groups everyone can find a favorite, whether seafood, pasta's, or pizza/burgers for the finicky kids.
