The Secret Garden Inn may be my new favorite guest house anywhere. Michael is the most gracious host you'll ever find, and our room was spotless, peaceful, and just adorable.
Winning points include the location: The inn is tucked away in a quiet (secret!) spot in the middle of Provincetown. It felt like a different world from busy Commercial street, but was really only a few feet away. I could sit in the garden and listen to the birds sing and the bubbling little fountain, and be completely at peace - then be in the middle of everything Ptown has to offer in 30 seconds. Amazing.
The room: We had the Dune Shack room, on the first floor. Comfy bed, plus all the things you'd expect - wifi, air conditioning, wonderful pillows, bottled water - plus a small refrigerator, which was great to have. We shared a bath with one other room, and it was spotless. Lovely soft towels, too. Millie, the housekeeper, did an excellent job.
The ambiance: Charming, from top to bottom. From the beautiful paintings to the very comfortable leather chairs in the reception area, to the adorable sitting area in the garden, it was exactly what I needed to unwind from the real world. Warmth and genuine happiness were part of every interaction.
The hosts: Here for a weeklong writer's workshop, I had a lot of questions beyond just where to go for dinner. It's one thing to hand someone a brochure listing a lot of businesses - it's another to take personal time with guests and give really thoughtful personal recommendations. I can't remember the last time someone was as genuinely welcoming as Michael.
The takeaway: It's a total winner, and a great value for the price. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
