“Gateway to Provincetown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2012

We were lucky enough to stay at the Harbor Hotel, formerly the Cape Inn, on August 16 & 17 2012.

It's located right on Cape Cod Bay with a great view of P'town.

We were there for the annual P'Town Carnival Parade & the hotel is the starting point for the parade.

Our room was ready when we arrived at 11AM. Lunch at the Cabana bar by the pool was very nice & we even had some pre-parade entertainment, This year's theme was a "Space Odyssey" & aliens dashed around the pool area.

The room was on the ground floor with a private terrace, big screen tv. There's wifi in the lobby along with a lending library and coffee bar. There's also a liquor bar open late.

The hotel is about a mile & a half from the center of P'town. We walked the level street & enjoyed the beautiful homes on the east side of town. As we approached the center of town, the pre-parade excitement was building & the folks wearing costumes were very accomodating for pictures.

The parade is the closest thing to Mardi Gras that the East has to offer. Lots of fun!

Next year's theme is "Las Vegas" & we're booking our room now.

A friend and I stayed here at the beginning of August and thought it was nice. It's nothing fancy by all means but a cute little hotel with everything you basically need for a few days stay. The rooms are again - nothing fancy but cozy and beachy. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms clean. We had a poolside view which was fine.

The beach across the street is also very nice. Keep in mind that the hotel is located about 1 mile from the Commercial St. shops/dining but we sort of preferred that because it's quieter. We took the shuttle into town and a pedicab on the way back. The staff was friendly and very informative.

The only complaint that we had was the bathrooms need some updating. The room we stayed in as a separate bathroom with toilet and shower which is very small and could use some updating! Other than that I would recommend this hotel.

We are delighted that you and your friend made the choice to stay with us at the Harbor Hotel Provincetown. Our peaceful location by the beach is certainly a favorite among many of our guests and we're thrilled you enjoyed it too. Along with the major renovations that have already happened, we are continuously striving to upgrade our property, including the bathrooms, and hope we can welcome you back to experience our hotel when everything is done. Thank you for your review.

.First of all, Harbor Hotel Provincetown is located on Snail Road and Route 6A in the East End with a wonderful view of Provincetown Harbor, yet it is accessible to the center of town by foot, hotel-available bicycles, and RT-run shuttle bus as well as by car. Beyond the quiet location with a gorgeous view, the amenites are many: restaurant with varied menu with water view; an inground pool; a pool table in the bar area; a lending library; a fire pit area for socializing and enjoying the water view; and comfortable rooms, some with water views.

As for the menu, one can have deleicious Wellfleet oysters on the half shell, scallop ceviche, and tuna tartar while the children dine on chicken fingers, all at reasonable prices.

Next summer the breakfast menu will be a la carte instead of a complimentary Continental breakfast, but again, the prices are reasonable.

For folks with children, the East End flats at low tide are a merely across Route 6A. Children can wander and wonder about the low-tide creatures right at their feet. Grown-ups can enjoy watching children reveling in the sand and water, and may even experience the feel of tickle fish and hermit crabs as well as observe moon snails and scallops.

Our family, occupying three rooms, give the Harbor Hotel Provincetown a big thumbs up and will return there whenver we can.

Room Tip: Since the public rooms face the harbor, one needn't have a sleeping room with a harbor view. Re...

If you are looking for pretension, this is not the place for you. But, if a casual, hip setting with great people and gorgeous beach vistas is more your style, then the Harbor Hotel Provincetown is a great location. The Harbor is just a little outside of the congestion of Commercial Street, but a short bike ride and you're in the thick of restaurants and other Provincetown delights. The pool is clean and equipped with a bar/restaurant. The rooms are simple, but clean. This is a great, affordable cape getaway.

My family has relied heavily on tripadvisor as we are traveling through the 50 states, thus I was surprised to find tripadvisor failed us in reviewing this hotel. Granted, I stayed in a dog room but the floor had rugs that smelled and were stained. The renovation the hotel claims to have done is in sheepish modern (similar to a dorm room), leaving a feeling of being duped especially since I paid $200. a night to stay there. The staff was cooperative and friendly but could be edgy if there was a problem. The good news: the food was good and there was a live band during the week which was the best part of my stay!!

Wow, that sounds like an amazing family vacation! As improvements are ongoing throughout our hotel, hearing from our guests about areas that need our attention is very helpful. It is certainly exciting to hear that you had the opportunity to enjoy the live entertainment along with a delicious meal and we hope that the remainder of your adventure through all 50 states is certainly memorable. Thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back for another stay soon.

Our family of 4 stayed for 2 nights (July 25-27) and really enjoyed our brief time at the Harbor Hotel. Our main floor room was clean (polished concrete floors were spotless) and well-decorated with bright seaside color accents. We all agreed the beds were among the most comfortable we have slept in at hotels/motels and the linens were crisp, white and fresh. The many lighting options in the room make it comfortable and relaxing and the TV reception and selection was perfect for our kids (8 and 11). Patio doors are old and could use replacing but the proximity to the pool and space to sit outside was appreciated. Shower pressure was excellent and the water temp perfect. I would say the bathroom could use a little refresh (the corner countertop is awkward) but it was clean and the towels and soaps were high-end. As a suggestion: I'd put 1 or 2 luggage stands in the room.. there was no good spot to lay out a suitcase except for the floor.

Other...

Complimentary breakfast was simple but good and just what we needed to get on with our day of exploring. There is also a fridge in the room which we used for snacks and drinks.

In the afternoon we enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine by the firepit and people watching... there was an art show and free live music in the evening as well which we took in. The Lobby had games and books available to lend.

Staff are friendly and helpful in our interactions with them. The pool is large and clean. Cabana Bar by the pool looked fun but the weather never really got sunny long enough for us to enjoy that.

Plenty of free parking available... a rare commodity in Provincetown!

Not sure about previous comments about cell phone coverage - I had no trouble using my phone in our room.

I will add that the walls between rooms were not as soundproof as we've enjoyed in the past. But we did run the air-conditioner through the night to keep the room cool and remove the damp, and we were not bothered by any noise overnight.

All-in-all, we enjoyed ourselves and would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you prefer a very quiet room, let staff know so they can place you away from the outdoor banquet...

We did stay in a pet room, but it was totally disgusting, the rugs were completely soiled and smelled, (which is probably a health code violation). They need to rip out all the rugs and just have a hard floor which can easily be sanitized. The bathrooms are old & the air conditioner was so loud it nearly knocked us out of bed. There is no wi-fi in any of the rooms, except for the lobby. The free breakfast was ok, but need to pay extra for eggs. The system they have with those papers to order breakfast isn't really working too well, the waitresses either lost the tickets or mixed up the orders. I will say the actual food was pretty good and the fire pit was nice. I WOULD STAY CLEAR of this place. Was very disappointed.

Room Tip: Would not recommend any rooms

While it's great to hear that you enjoyed our cuisine and fire pit, I am certainly concerned to learn about your challenging stay and can assure you I will look into the issues concerning the carpet. Our staff strives to maintain a comfortable and refreshing experience for all of our guests. During our recent and ongoing revitalization to the property, each bathroom will be upgraded, but improvements can take time. We hope to be able to regain your trust with a future stay and thank you for your review.
