The homestay is about 12km outside of Chiang Rai, and is set in wonderful countryside. This was our first accommodation outside of a town or city in 3 weeks of touring Thailand and it was great to be able to enjoy the peace and quiet. The owners are very friendly people, happy to chat and help with any advice on getting out and about. The rooms are spacious although a bit spartan, functional rather than comfortable, and the bathrooms nice and modern with good hot showers. We did feel that the towels and bed linen were getting towards the end of their lifespan and could maybe do with updating. Each room has its own patio area with a table and seating.
The restaurant at the homestay is really good, serving excellent Thai food at reasonable prices. Friday night is pizza night and they were superb. There are fridges stacked with drinks and goodies like homemade apple pies and chocolate brownies and you are free to help yourself and have things charged to your bill. It was great knowing all this was available when you get back from your day’s activity. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and comprised fresh fruit, cooked eggs with ham & cheese plus a basket of fresh homemade bread. We found it slightly frustrating that they like to get everything closed up fairly soon after dinner completes at 8:00pm which means there’s is nowhere to sit and socialise unless you head back to the rooms. Meeting and chatting with other travellers is a fundamental part of a trip and sitting on the patio outside the room would have caused disturbance to other residents.
There are bicycles and scooters for hire and we had a great day of cycling following a route recommended by the owner. The countryside is really glorious. The homestay can also organise lifts to town, bus station, airport etc.
