We traveled from Connecticut to the Emerson Inn in Rockport for a quiet get-away weekend.
The charm of the hotel and the professional staff made our weekend the best ever.
It was everything that we hoped it be and we'll definitely return.

Looks beautiful from the outside, not so great wants you get to the inside. Downhill right from the start - horrible guest service. At check in the male was not pleasant and seemed to be annoyed we were there. We went up to our room and it was the size of a closet, I'm not sure how the bed and a desk fit in, also don't even think that two people can fit in that bathroom because it's impossible. And speaking of the bed, I had to sleep on the floor both nights. Went down to the front desk and they would not help us out- I guess they don't want their guest to come back? A couple positives were the free breakfast for being a guest, it was good - yet again the service was not so pleasant, the grounds and view were beautiful (love the ocean), even though the pool was small it was nice, and the location was good.

our stay at emerson was disappointing. the room was to small for the king size bed, and the bed itself was not that comfortable. The hotel is getting old, worn and getting a little threadbare and shabby. At first glance it looks great, but if you get closer you'll notice all the spots that need fixing, painting, new rugs, new linens, new furnishings etc. Broken screens, light fixtures, bare spots in lawn etc. Using the Red Lion in Stockbridge Ma or the Equinox in Manchester Vt as the ideal historic hotel, we felt that we paid top dollar and did not get our money's worth. the grand cafe was good but overpriced, service slow and no bread with dinner. the buffet breakfast in the morning is good but if i were not a guest and had to pay $16 for it i would have felt cheated (i've had better at denny's or friendly for half that price). Came down to get coffee 3 times in afternoon to find none. etc. It's just that overall, i felt we could have done better for our money, or the inn could do better for its guests. We will probably not return to either the inn or the restaraunt, nor could i in good conscience recommend them.

Want a quiet place with great food and lovely staff - here it is. Just the place to relax, and enjoy a family run establishment. Not as slick as a chain hotel but it has character and charm. Good value, very good chef and quaint rooms.

We stopped at the Emerson Inn for 2 nights in September, and had a very enjoyable stay. The staff made us feel very welcome, and would reccomend the Inn to anyone wanting to spend a relaxing stay in comfortable surroundings. The breakfast was excellant and the dinners 1st class. We will definatly return and stop for longer next time

We stayed one night in the King Suite with a balcony. The walk up 3 flights of stairs with luggage was a little much but the room was clean and cozy. We had a balcony room which was really nothing more than two chairs with sliding glass door...not worth the $350 a night. Dinner at the resturant was tasty with fantastic service. Definitely will go back to stay in a regular room when we are back in Gloucester or Rockport.

Kudos are in order for a wonderful 2 day stay at The Emerson Inn. - It was a delightful experience and exceeded expectations. The parlor and physical plant per se was like a step back in time - Historic and a "feel good" place where one would like to linger in a beautiful, rugged, seaside setting. The accomodations were perfect for us, the staff courteous, friendly smiles , attentive, and efficent. Overall the hospitality was special and memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent , full breakfast on the screened porch overlooking the sea and the varied dinner menu was just right - and at reasonable prices, with quality preparation and presentation. - and the bar beverages including the wines were noteworthy. We have traveled to Rockport Ma on many prior occasions staying at B&B's nearer to the town center - however, after experiencing The Emerson, we have decided that on repeat visits to Rockport, we will "hang our hats" at the there.. - a wonderful two day stay. - Col Ray and Lorry Kaufman - Litchfield, Ct 06759
