“Something different for the Rockport Gloucester area”
Reviewed 12 September 2010

After you had your fill of fried clams and local seafood at some of the other local retaurants come to Lo Grassos . It is a nice change of pace ! The food was excellent anf the price was very fair. My wife and I enjoyed our own bottle of wine , this is a byob place, our bill was $42 what a bargain. The atmosphere is unique and somewhat romantic.
Located next to the Rockport train station, this place is off the beaten tourist path, but still only a 5 to 10 minute walk from downtown Bear Skin Neck. You wont be dissapointed!

“romantic place for dinner, note: address changed”
Reviewed 20 June 2010

Hidden gem of an Italian restaurant in Rockport, MA. We got Scallops Putanesca ($19) and Bourbon St Jambalaya ($17.50). delicious to the last morsel, but the "hot" Jambalaya could have been spicier. Periodically they have online coupons (we got free bruschetta) and make sure you BYO! New address for Lo Grasso's Cafe Bistro: 13 Railroad Ave. Rockport, MA 01966

“A locals' secret”
Reviewed 29 August 2009

I'm local and we often go to Lo Grasso's in the winter, or on a summer night like tonight when there's a hurricane blowing through. It's out of the tourist part of town and there's no view - heavy drapes protect you from watching the parking lot. But the homely (mostly) Italian food is tasty and dependable, service is friendly and it's the only place left in this once-dry town that's byob, open all year and not challenged for parking.

I expect that locals might like it kept a secret, but I think it deserves more recognition.

“Now Serves Dinner Only”
Reviewed 5 April 2008

If the service at Lo Grasso's, (which used to be a deli and has transformed itself into a rather dark and unique dinner establishment) was good, this would be a better review.

We waited to be seated, having made reservations for an early (6pm) Friday night dinner. We ordered our meals and waited quite a long time for them to arrive. Another couple arrived after we did and received their meals well before ours were brought out. The owner seemed to know them and therefore we were left with the impression that if you do not know the owner, you aren't actually part of the experience.

Once our meals were served, we were asked once how they were, and then did not see our server until the end of the meal. Perhaps they were short on waitstaff that evening - we do not know.

The food was good, though the bed of vegetables seemed a little odd with lots of onions, cabbage and perhaps kale in it. The crab cakes were delicious and the salmon was good, though not great.

We will probably try someplace in Gloucester next time, since there are so many untried choices there
