“Perfect venue for a wedding”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Just returned from our daughter's wedding at Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield, Ma. I want to thank Eve, Craig, John , Matt and all the staff that helped make the event so meaningful. From the original meeting in February with snow on the ground, to the day of the wedding with the babbling brook, they co-ordinated every detail with calmness and expertise. My husband, who is a minister, said he had never had so much fun at a wedding! I highly recommend this venue for anyone who wants a wedding celebration with a "family reunion" vibe.

I have stayed here for many years- it is very close to the Berkshire School and the Choral Festival, and it has only gotten better. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned which can be really important in the summer as it can get hot during the day. The Stagecoach restaurant which is in the building next door has wonderful dinnersand great ambience. Breakfast at the RBL is the best- freshly baked muffins, eggs, fresh fruit, great coffee.
There is an honor bar where you can pour a glass of wine, sit on the front porch, listen to the rushing brook and look up at the stars......I really love this place. If you are looking for the Four Seasons, this is not it, but it has so much character and comfort- truly a unique experience in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Love # 9 where you can hear the brook rushing while you are going to sleep

I needed a weekend out of the city very badly and this place cured all of my ills! Absolutely beautiful location with easy trails into the woods and up the mountain with more trails nearby and my friend was able to bring her dog which was great! Fabulous breakfast and really laid back, easy vibe to the whole place. It was exactly what the doctor ordered and I can't wait to return!

Race Brook Lodge is one of my favorite get aways. I've been visiting for over 13 years. And every time, I'm more in love with the place, the service, and the staff. I highly recommend their package specials as well! If you are looking for somewhere you can take a deep long breath, this is the place. I will be back soon!

We wanted a weekend away to just completely relax. This was the ideal place to do that.
The boho vibe is definitely not for everyone — it's not immaculate, there are no room TVs (hooray!), decor is funky and unusual. But it's prefect for those of us who prefer a casual, cozy b&b devoid of fussy Victorian stuff like Laura Ashley sheets, scented candles, potpourri, etc.
Our room was really cool. The breakfast room is great for hanging out in all day, reading and playing games. The large property is strewn with hammocks; a hiking trail goes straight from the inn to a beautiful waterfall with fantastic views of mountains in the distance. The staff is super-friendly and helpful.
My only complaint; the service at the lodge's restaurant. Our food didn't arrive for an hour. When it did, it was luke-warm. I understand mistakes happen, and that's OK, as long as the waitstaff lets you know what's happening and they apologize for the delay. In our case we were virtually ignored until we found the hostess (because we couldn't seem to get our waitress to come back to us) and asked her what was up. After we finally got our food, no one came back to ask how things were, or if we wanted another drink, or to refill our empty water glasses (until we were ready to leave). We were told later by another guest who has been there frequently that they had always had good service, so I guess it was a fluke. But it really messed up our anniversary celebration.
Other than that, we had a perfect weekend.

Room Tip: Our room, number 9, was spacious and lovely, with a wee little bedroom off of it, very cozy. But if...

We visited Race Brook Lodge with friends. It is an "interesting" property, both in the good and less favorable sense of the word. All of us appreciated the beautiful setting, friendly staff, and laid-back atmosphere. The decor is chic bohemian, but verges on rustic grunge. It's a mixed bag for sure. There are some very stylish and artsy flourishes mixed in with dirty upholstery and chipping paint. My husband and I rather liked this eclectic mix, but our friends were less enthusiastic. All of us were discouraged by the strong musty smell of our rooms. We did get used to it, and might not have found it so offensive, if we weren't paying top dollar for our stay. Our bathroom was disappointing too, dated and dark. The bed was so-so, but the pillows were awful. Still, there's enough that's appealing about Race Brook that we might consider going back if it were a bit more affordable. Breakfast is simple but healthy and tasty; there's a spectacular hike right out the back door; and the grounds and pool are quite attractive. If you want to experience something totally unique, a bit rough around the edges, and don't mind the price, Race Brook Lodge could be just right.

Dear peeshysmom & friends,
Thanks so much for your well though out critique after your recent stay @ Race Brook Lodge. . We pride ourselves on our friendly, laid back, naturally beautiful environment and believe that our many repeat guests over the past 2 decades is a testament to just that. While, we truly might not be the perfect spot for everyone, we believe that we offer an interesting alternative that does appeal to many travelers. The comfort of our guests is of utmost importance to us, we would have been happy to remedy whatever possible, during your recent stay, to have made it more enjoyable for you & your party. Just a word about our rates ~ we do our research & feel that our pricing is competitive with other establishments in the bustling Berkshires.
We do hope that you will consider trying us again, we will do our best to improve on your last stay. Once again, thanks for taking the time to write- we appreciate the constructive criticism!
