The trip out to the lighthouse is worth it. Erosion is taking the waterfront houses, so get out there while you can.

Nice walk from Sconset, also available to drive right up to it. Beautiful views of both the island and the ocean from a pretty high point on the island.

We had a car tour that stopped at the lighthouse where we learned about the effect that erosion is having on this small island. The lighthouse has been moved twice already and is still very threatened by the winter storms and continuing erosion. They predict a loss of 3 feet per year for an island that is already so small.

This lighthouse and Great point have both been moved to save them. My dad was billeted here in WW2 as a loran operator and ran the lighthouse for 2 weeks when the keeper went on vacation. Two keepers homes have been torn down in the past 50 years due to sever erosion.

We were staying in Sconset from the UK, with no car. Being Brits, we thought we'd walk to the Lighthouse and found we were the only people walking! Bikes and cars, yes, walking no! But no worries, it was only a couple of miles along Baxter Road, and walking gave time to admire all the wonderful houses along the way, the beautiful flowers and gardens, and occasional views out to the sea from the ever rising ground along the bluff. Then you arrive at the Lighthouse and get a fabulous view out over the sea and back over Nantucket Island. Nothing else to do there but enjoy being there! On the way back, make sure you divert from the road and take the 'coast path' when you can - it takes you through the bottom of private lawns then ends up at Sconset Beach.
