We were on vacation in Boston. My girl friend has Coeliac Disease and cannot eat Gluten. She was therefore looking on line for a Gluten free (G/F) meal nearby, We decided to take the T to this cafe in Somerville. It was an excellent choice. We had a short wait, but had a lovely breakfast. Everything was G/F and the breakfast was all fantastic. Must mention our server Matt who was very helpful explaining G/F options and took very good care of us. (Hope you get your fire fighter job,Matt!)
As we were leaving the owner also had a chat with us and seemed to be genuinely pleased to greet his customers.
It is only a few stops on the T from Boston and we would highly recommend having breakfast here.

5 of us for breakfast on a Sunday mid-morning. Wait to seat was not long, for food longer, but not unexpected given the time of day. Host was extremely friendly and on top of things for seating, coming outside to inform everyone of what was happening. Food was plentiful and delicious (according to everyone), and the fruit offering I had as a substitute was outstanding. Waitress apologized for any delay with the food, as it was the first day of both outside seating and the overflow tables next door. Both she and host wished us well as we left, both very friendly. Will definitely return.

Went in for a late lunch with my son after visiting Tufts. Excellent food and truly outstanding service. Hawaiian Chicken Salad Wrap was superb. When I first ordered, our server (Matt) said they were out of chicken salad, so I ordered something else. He came back a couple minutes later to say they were making a new batch of chicken salad. I was pleasantly surprised, because they were close to closing for the day. Even without that, service was excellent - very friendly and efficient. That made it outstanding. Owner was also very friendly and thanked us for our business. Hard to find that kind of service these days!

Ball Square Cafe is the place we always have to go while visiting our daughter at Tufts University. We actually found it by accident. Our hotel had sent us to another restaurant next door, but this one looked more like our style. They have great gluten free options. The owner introduced himself to us and was very sweet and down to earth. The last time we went, there was about a 20 minute wait in line. They did keep apologizing and brought out some hot coffee and cocoa to drink. The food is very fresh, healthy, and yummy with big portions. You can't go wrong here. There were so many good things on the menu that we ordered extra food just for the table so we could all share and try more things.

I went to Ball Square Cafe with my sister around 11 on a Saturday morning - as expected, there was a wait but it really wasn't too bad (about 20 min for 2 people). There's usually a line out the door (and sometimes around the corner) to this place, but definitely for a reason! Someone from the restaurant comes out to check on the line pretty frequently, and the drinks are self-serve so you are welcomed to grab coffee while you wait. On Sundays when they are really busy, you may get seated in the restaurant next door which can be confusing, but you'll get the same food and service.

We ordered the banana and Nutella stuffed french toast - you can't ever go wrong with Nutella! The challah bread worked great in the french toast and the homemade whipped cream was thicker and less sweet than the stuff from the can, just delicious. We also had an order of the eggs benedict with prosciutto and asparagus - the combination was great and the homemade hollandaise sauce is perfect. Since this place is usually super busy on weekends, you can expect that a few things might slip through the cracks - one of the eggs was poached perfectly with a runny yolk, the other was overcooked. This is nothing that would stop me from going again (and again). The portions size is good (we couldn't finish both between us) - and if you have the option to get the grilled mashed potatoes as a side, do it!

While the food is great, the service at Ball square Cafe is really fantastic. Matt was our server and he really made the experience a fun start to our day. He was super attentive and personable, with just the right sense of humor for a light, casual brunch - he's so good that he can actually impact your mood and get you laughing all morning. All of the staff we interacted with was very friendly and made us feel welcomed.

This was my sister's first time at Ball Square Cafe and as we were leaving she said, "I want to come back here every weekend!" - and while we may not be there every weekend, we'll definitely be back!
