“Cool place, delicious Food”
Reviewed 2 March 2014 via mobile

Spoke is a small bar with excellent wine, creative and delicious food, and outstanding service. It doesn't think of itself as a restaurant, but the food really is great. I went back twice in two days: highlights included the beet and tomato salad (much more amazing than it sounds) and a salted caramel and hot chocolate affogato. The wine list is excellent and I strongly recommend the well-priced Gamay. The really distinctive thing is the hip, informal, friendly service, and the excellent cocktail mixer, who made us informed, and delicious drinks. It's just a short walk from Davis T, very highly recommended.

“Try the smoked scallops!”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

This place was great...it was next door to an italian restaurant followed by deli which had wine in the window so we almost missed it thinking the deli w/ wine was 'Spoke' but it's not, keep going and Spoke is right next door.

Great atmosphere, wine and tapas set up, small plates. The smoke scallops were amazing, the rabbit gnochetti was also very tasty. Staff was courteous and accommodating, willing to offer gluten free options, ie. veggies instead of crackers with spreads.

No wine flights on the menu but they may make one for you if you ask. I stuck with the spicer reds which were quite nice...

Pricey-ish but worth it. For 3 people, food bill ~$80 (we got 8 small plates); alcohol ~$60 (4 glasses of wine, 2 beers--for the husband).

They are also willing to separate your bill up in ridiculous ways so you can get reimbursed when more than one of you are on gov't per diem. Kudos + for that.

Great hidden jem.

“Sophisticated and Intimate”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

This is a great spot for a date or small group of friends. Don't go hear for a bud and burger. This place is where you go to have a really nice glass of wine and some cheese. It's small and has a really relaxing, simple, modern atmosphere. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly. Wonderful new spot you should try.

“Amazing Transformation!”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

It is hard to believe that this trendy, new wine bar used to be a funky, old clothing store. The redesign of the interior was masterfully executed and took advantage of every available inch of space to create a warm, cozy, and functional restaurant that the neighborhood needed.

Despite the small quarters, there is a bar with stools, small tables by the window, and benches along the wall that can all fit more people comfortably than would seem possible. The atmosphere is low-key but lively and casual.

The menu is mostly centered on small plates, charcuterie, specials, and desserts. The plates are not meant to be entree portions so the theme is to order a handful of items to share, which can add up however, the quality is there to justify the price tag. All details are attended to from the sourcing of the ingredients to the serving pieces that transport them to the table.

The food is fresh, creatively prepared and presented, and slightly expensive but oh so delicious! We ordered a great beet salad, the panini special, and the pea agnolotti, which was excellent. The pasta was silky, expertly cooked, and I could have eaten three plates of it!

As one would expect, the wine list offers a lot of variety, both by the glass or bottle, and focuses on rarely known varietals, which is both interesting and enlightening.

The service is also professional, helpful, and friendly. Our server was educated about the ingredients and flavors of the food and wine on offer, and returned often to refill our water glasses, ask about our drinks and food, and made a point to thank us for coming in to give the new place a try.

We will be back often.

What a great place to hang out, get a wonderful nosh, or try a new wine or cocktail. Meat and cheese boards are above average and beautifully served. The interior is modern and comfortable.
