“Nice beach”
Reviewed 25 November 2005

Went on a get away trip to the Ocean Club in November. We don't care much for the crowds of the summer. The heated pool was very nice and clean. The resort does not cater to children. Mostly couples. Its very quiet during this time of the year. No traffic jams or long lines at the restaurants. If you don't care for crowds and would rather walk the beach instead of swimming in the ocean, this is the time for it. We did not encounter the problems other people seemed to have at this resort. Everyone was nice and every thing was clean, with nothing "not working".

My husband and I go to the cape at least twice a year and the ocean club was truly a pleasant surprise. The rooms were very nice and quite clean. The staff was very helpfull and we really loved the view and the location. We have stayed at a few places on this strip of beach before and we were quite disapointed. The Ocean Club is the place for us!

We stayed at the Ocean Club the week of September 9th in a "one bedroom" condo on the first floor in the corner. The room was decorated in a nautical theme, was fairly nice, and was functional for two of us. It was more like an efficiency with a large blue bubble tub in the corner and a mini kitchen with a microwave and coffee maker. The "balcony" was probably 1 ft by 2 ft and looked out over two parking lots and a little of the beach. The private beach belonging to the condo was fairly small, was connected to some other private beaches, and was not that nice. The national seashore beaches along the east side of Cape Code are much nicer.
The pool and exercise areas were nice, but small, and the complex seemed to cater to the older, retired crowd. We didn't have our family with us, but it didn't seem like a very family, or kid, friendly place (ie kids couldn't use the hot tub or swim in the pool during certain times of the day, no activities for kids, etc). The general community around the facility, South Yarmouth, is overrated, very congested with traffic, and a tourist trap. The towns on the eastern side and northern tip of the Cape Cod peninsula are much nicer and I would stay there instead. It wasn't a bad place to stay, but it was nothing special either.

This place had to be one of the worst hotel or more like a roach motel I have ever seen. I thought these places are only in the movies. At $260 per night with a two night minimum... it was a highway robbery. We found the place to be absolutely filthy. MOLD CITY!! Everywhere we looked, there were some sort of growth going on. To make our experiance even more horrifying, our daughter started to wheeze due to the mold in the so-called 1 bedroom suite. We ended up sleeping in our car because it was such a health hazzard. We checked out the very earily next morning and explained to the girl at the front desk with our experiance. I requested a manager call me ASAP but the woman never returned our numerous calls. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME AT THIS PLACE...TRUST ME...IT A ROACH MOTEL!!

This is probably the worse place I have ever stayed at. The rooms were tiny, filthy, and overpriced. Not too mention that there is a giant blue hot tub sitting in the middle of the room. I rented what they called as a 1 bedroom suite, which it was not. It was more of a studio room. We had to walk sideways to get around each other.

The beach was gross. My children even complained about the beach being dirty and the water full of seaweed. The pool area was old and needs updating. Plus they told me my 2.5 year old son could not swim in the pool, even though he is potty trained.

I would never go back and find their advertising to be deceptive. Family friendly place this is not. The time share owners are rude and make you feel very unwelcomed.

My husband and I have stayed at the Ocean Club a few times. It has the perfect location. It is not right on the main street (Route 28) so it's very quiet. Of the three times that we have stayed there, service was always great. The rooms were always clean. They have an outdoor pool with a jacuzzi, and the beach is just steps away. It is a private beach so you didn't have to worry about it being crowded. There is just so much to do in the area. Plenty of restaurants, mini-golf, shopping. Hyannis is down the main street a few miles, and there is more shopping and more restaurants. You can take a boat cruise, or go for a dinner train ride. I have always had a wonderful experience staying at the Ocean Club, although they are a little pricey. My husband and I look forward to staying with them again.

I don't visit the cape in the summer. In the off-season, so many places are closed that it's hard to find a place to go. The Ocean Club is open all year except January. We've been twice, and will certainly go again!

We go for the location, right on the beach in South Yarmouth, close to many great restaurants -- many open even in the winter -- and only a short drive to various museums and factory tours.

We also go for the warm and uncrowded heated indoor pool. This past weekend, we had the pool to ourselves Thursday and Friday nights and Saturday morning, and then shared it with a total of about 10 other folks on a rainy, snowy, Saturday afternoon. The previous year, on a nice Saturday afternoon in February, there was only one other family in the pool.

All the rooms are suites, although the 1-bedroom suites (which make up most of the resort) are fairly small for families (the bedroom can be closed off from the living room by a sliding door, but then you don't have windows in the bedroom).

We greatly prefer the 2-bedroom suites when traveling with our child, despite the added expense, but there are only two of them and they must be reserved way in advance, even in the off-season. But with the 2-bedroom suites you get a full kitchen, dining, livingroom area as well as two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms -- a wonderful amount of space, and a great way to save on meal costs, as we ate all our breakfasts and one other meal (lunch or dinner) in our suite each day, from food we brought with us or purchased locally.

The service was fine and the people at the front desk and in maintenance/housekeeping friendly and efficient. We had a problem with a VCR -- each suite has a stereo and VCR, as well as a TV and maintenance brought us another one the same day (it did take me two phone calls, but then they made several trips to help us install the new VCR and make sure it worked).

Actually, the two-bedroom suites have 3 TVs (one in each bedroom and one in the living room) and 2 VCRs. The 1-bedroom suite that I saw had two TVs and one VCR.

The resort is right on the beach. Only a couple of the rooms look directly out onto nothing but beach. The rest of the rooms do have something of a parking lot view, but you can still see the beach from all the rooms; from our suite you could also see a beautiful lake that is next to the beach. Even in the snow, it was wonderful to be able to look out in all directions.

All the rooms have little patios and/or balconies.

There is an activity room, with afternoon activities for kids (e.g. "decorate a visor" for $2) and occasional ice-cream socials or the like. We seemed to be the only family using the activity room last weekend. I guess it was a slow week. March is off-season, after all! But the activities manager was still more than happy to open up ice-cream tubs for us, or to let us get out all the arts and crafts materials (even on a day when it wasn't officially scheduled) so our 5-year-old could do a project.

There were all sorts of rules and regulations posted (e.g. "must have a blue wristband to use the pool" and "must sign out towels" and you only get so many per day) but none of those rules were being enforced. There were no wristbands, nor any restrictions on towel use. I imagine that in the summer things are more regimented, and also much busier.

Similarly, as to housekeeping, there was a note in the room guide saying that rooms would only be made up, and towels changed, on Tuesdays (unless you made a specific request, which was always allowed). But our room was made up and towels changed every day that we were there (and we weren't even there on a Tuesday). So again, perhaps it's only in the summer months when they cut back. Or perhaps we were lucky.

Anyhow, we will certainly return!
