“Old Hotel, with updated services and in a great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

They have done all they can with a very old property (excellent wi-fi, but poor cell phone service). We very much enjoyed breakfast and dinner, as also sipping drinks on the front porch watching the world go by on Stockbridge's main street. The Red Lion Inn is located very well. One can ditch the car and take some interesting walks right from the hotel, including one that goes over the Housatonic on a pedestrian bridge and leads to 3 easy walking trails. The hotel also boasts a cute heated swimming pool. Within a 5 to 10 mt drive from the hotel are the Norman Rockwell Museum ( a must visit) and the Chesterwood Museum (former studio and summer home of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial in Washinton, DC).

Room Tip: If you go to the Red Lion, do not stay in the first floor rooms adjacent to the Country Curtains sto...

My wonderful husband was kind enough to take me to the Red Lion Inn for my birthday and I although I have been to the hotel so many times before, this was a sad experience. More than one person was incredibly rude and I never experienced this type of service before. I love Stockbridge and I love historic hotels and I have stayed in dozens of them throughout the country. It gave me great pleasure to paint on the Main Street porch, dine in the Tavern and play with Simon, the resident cat. I want to thank the sweet lady who did the turn down service, she was a delight....

But I am sad to say I will probably never go back.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor and quiet but it was a very small room, with a king size bed. I am s...

Thank you for writing a review. I’m sorry we disappointed you on this visit. Our staff is trained to not only give great service, but to provide great hospitality as well. I would like to have an opportunity to discuss the service issues you experienced further. Michele Kotek, Innkeeper 413-298-1656.

Staying at the Red Lion Inn is a bit like staying in a museum. The 4-story, rambling wooden inn is chockful of antiques and collectable that the several owners have gathered. The rooms are generously large, well set up and very comfortable beds. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, they all seem like they were there just to make our stay comfortable. Walking down the corridors is a bit like walking the deck of a boat at sea; the floors are not very even and straight, but that is just part of the charm in our opinion.

Meals in the dining room were delicious and we much appreciated the chatty service from our waitress.

This is such a lovely place ! we arrived in NYC, hired a car and drove straight to Stockbridge. So after a long journey we were delighted to find the Red Lion Inn a relaxing and welcoming place. The inn is quite large. Our room was huge and very nice and homely. with two double beds as requested and filled with antiques. The ensuite bathroom was also very spacious and lovely. The whole place was very clean, the staff charming and helpful. As it was late we chose to have dinner in the inn's tavern. They also have a smart restaurant but we fancied something more casual. The food was very good and the setting perfect. Stockbridge is so cute and typical of Vermont's villages. We would most definatly stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a room on the front side of the inn facing the road which was a little bit noisy so may be a...

I am sad to say that our forth floor room seemed to echo the road sounds from below and kept me awake all night. But that being said, I would come back to this hotel any time, just avoiding rooms near the main road. The service was excellent, the decor was amazing, the food-delicious and reasonably priced for the quality; overall I was impressed and enjoyed my stay.

The red lion is very old but well kept. If you are into period correct rooms and furnishings this is your spot. The check is hard to find depending on where you enter the building (they need signs). Be careful about where they are putting you as you could wind up a block away. The lions den bar downstairs is a must see. Lots of interesting memorabilia, good service.

The restaurant is good leaning towards the higher end.

Creaky/tilted floors and stairs, dark old bars and restaurants, worn runners in the halls, an old birdcage elevator, a staff that's been there forever, fine food, fine drink, wonderful outdoor seating, first class friendly service, comfortable rooms with charm, good entertainment. If that's what you are looking for, this is the place.
Rest in peace Bob Hardiman, bartender extraordinaire and a gentle soul.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms
