“Wonderful wedding venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

The wedding staff at OSV was completely amazing! I had the most magical, stress free wedding. They took care of every tiny detail and seemed to know what I needed at any given time. Everything from the food to the ceremony to the wait staff were top notch, not to mention the beauty of this place. Lise, our wedding coordinator was terrific. If you're looking for a unique wedding venue that is excellent quality, this is the place!

“Worth Two Days”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

Took the grandkids June 2014. Enough great things to see that we easily stretched out the visit for 2 days & the 2nd day is free with 1st day admission (within 10 days). Friendly, well-informed, historically costumed staff.

“Authentic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Period costumed employees who are very knowledgable about life in 1830's New England. This is not a place where everyone is always in character, so they will tell you how things from then compare with today's life. The buildings are all authentic from various locations in New England that were moved here. This is a place that you must see at least once in your life. As someone who lives nearby, I also know this from being close with people who work there, so I also know the things that might not always be in front of a casual visiter. Things like the fact that the buildings are not always open, and/or not always attended by someone who can answer your questions. This is due to cutbacks in staff. Long time employees who knew this place inside and out have been laid off and replaced by part time 'volunteers' or college kids on vacation who are doing internships. The entrance fee has been raised quite a bit over the last few years. Some of their most desired attractions, such as the stagecoach and carry all are run on a limited schedule. I strongly recommend that you bring your own lunch, the food is NOT cooked on site, but brought in from a food service company and is expensive and is not highly liked. Some things int he village cost extra, such as the boat ride, and again, that is not always running. I have know this place for over 50 years, and although it is still wonderful, it is a shadow of what it used to be. Sad that corporate influences and a management heavy operation has taken it's toll on something that is so special.
