This place is Martha's Vineyard's best kept secret, we were on the beach, I believe this is the only hotel (motel) on the beach. Our unit has a full kitchen, there are tables and a gas grill for out door dinning. Bus service right out side the door, there is no need to bring a car across from the main land. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
My family will come back here again. This motel has different size unit, we might try one of the apartments next year.

Although it was just the two of us, this hotel both struck us as being a really nice place to take a family. If you have champagne tastes, this is probably not the place for you. The facility is kept very neat, it has a nice-sized private beach with an excellent view of the harbor, and a pit to grill your meats on. It also has picnic tables near the pit and in the small courtyard for dining. The rooms are pretty large, but very dark. The mattresses are not the most comfortable but passable. It has a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. It also has a LCD TV and wi-fi in the room. A family willing to bring groceries and do a little cooking, could stay here pretty cheaply. One thing I would have liked to have seen would have been an outlet in the bathroom. The location, while not dazzling (it is located right as you pass an industrial section coming in from Oak Bluffs) is very convenient. We had an excellent meal at Saltwater located across the street. A grocery store is within walking distance as are some other little restaurants and shops like the Black Dog Bakery. The main street retail area of Vineyard Haven is probably another 3 blocks away. The staff was very helpful, but the parking is a bit limited.

Like I said earlier, If you are looking for the Ritz, don't stay here. Otherwise, for the price, it's a nice comfortable place. Apparently, there are people who come here every year at around the same time. Like a small community. That should tell you something.

This was my 3rd visit to VHM and I am so pleased. The staff was exceptional. Room very comfortable. Walking distance to shopping and the ferry. Beautiful harbor view with private beach. Picnic tables,BBQ area, and plenty of beach chairs. Nice shaded area, as well.
Will be making reservations for next summer ASAP!

Spent 2 nights in room 221- basic room about 15 x 15, clean freshly painted and served the need. Bed was comfortable and room had a refrigerator to store drinks in. Wifi was free but you could not pick it up on the hotels beach.

Speaking of the beach- it was really nice! Had adequate chairs and a stiing area with outdoor fireplace to cook if you desired. Perhaps one of the most "hidden jems" for views! We had 4, 150 foot super yachts docked 100 feet away from us! Between them was a view of the channel leading out of Vineyard Haven. Also had the "Nantucket Lightship" docked to our right.

We met several guests who come year after year- that says something! The hotel is not upscale and not downscale either. Right in the middle- perfect for families looking for good, safe accomadations within a budget. Only issue we had was with the A/C unit. it was mounted right above the bed- nothing like the sound of a compressor lulling you to sleep! But hey, never heard any other guests or outside noises to keep us awake!

Staff were very friendly and happily answered all questions. hotel had a "friendly, family" feel-try it!

We really enjoyed our stay at Vineyard Harbor Motel. It's a pretty basic motel, but it's all about location! It's right on the water, with a great view of the harbor, a little beach where you can relax and watch all the boats going in and out. Also, very close to the ferry, everything is within a 5 minutes walk: restaurants, shops, ferry, coffeeshop, bike rental, etc. You don't need a car if you stay there.

The rooms are basic, but comfy. I understand that rooms in the secondary building are not as good, so please insist you get your room in the main U-shaped building, preferably upstairs. There was no microwave in the room but they offered us one to use in a common room. We were with our toddler and he had lots of fun running around the deck, on the beach, and watching the boats. There's also a barbeque area, perfect for buying fresh fish from Menemsha and coming back for a BBQ.

Again, it's an awesome location, very reasonable prices, and we'd definitely stay there again. I see some negative reviews, and you shouldn't expect a 4-star resort when you go there, it's just your basic motel for visiting the island, in the best location you can get.

Room Tip: Main building with courtyard view, better upstairs

We had rented the penthouse on the 3rd floor for a girls weekend. It was nice and big for the four of us. It looked as if it hadn't been used in a while and was a bit dusty (bathroom especially) but once we contacted the front office, they took care of it for us. Very friendly staff, quick walk to the ferry (there is a parking lot, but no need to bring a car unless you want to explore the island), close to shopping and a few restaurants. There is a Stop and Shop within walking distance for groceries. The view was great and the beach was nice (though as some other reviews said, there were a lot of yachts close by and we were reluctant to go into the water).

Overall, we had a nice time and enjoyed our stay. My only complaint was that the room didn't get a "once-over" before we arrived. I would stay there again.

This was our second stay at The Vineyard Harbor Motel and we really enjoyed our time there. The staff in the office was very friendly, accomodating & helpful. We had a large end unit with a beautiful view of the harbor on the first floor. We could tell that the room had been recently updated with a full kitchen, bathroom, and lovely couch and 2 wing chairs. There was plenty of room for the four of us. The location was very convenient, too. There were a lot of restaurants and a Stop & Shop grocery store nearby. It was also within walking distance to the ferry and downtown Vineyard Haven. The motel is on the main drag, but we never heard any traffic since our room was right on the peaceful harbor. The property is also very well maintained...each morning someone was out raking the beach and making sure that everything was just so. We never had a problem parking and we always felt very safe. We left our windows open at night so that we could fall asleep to the wonderful sound of the water reaching the shore. The flowers and grounds were very nice, as well. The motel provided ample seating with picnic tables, beach chairs and lounges, too. We will definitely return to this warm & welcoming place the next time we visit Martha's Vineyard ! :) Thanks VHM....we had a wonderful time !

Room Tip: We really enjoyed our end unit on the harbor....beautiful views and very quiet, too.
