“A Wonderful Getaway at Cape Cod!!!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

A most wonderful B n B can be found at the Bursley Manor in W. Barnstable MA! Sheila, the owner, is most accommodating whether it's the breakfast each morning or the rooms. The website does not do justice to this inn. It is beautiful, romantic and close to everything you could want to do on the Cape. Cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rose Room but saw every room at the inn. Each one is beautiful and beautifully app...

We stayed 3 nights at the Bursley Manor ( which is one of the oldest houses on the Cape ) and Sheila could not have been a better host! We stayed at the Rose Room which is very spacious, even had an old fireplace and an ensuite bath. The room was nicely furnished with antiques as was the rest of the house ( even the windows are very old we learned! ) and had a large bed! The only negative thing about this room is that it is directly located at the street and therefore it can be a bit loud at night ( it's the Main Street ! ). I don't know if there is a room more far away from the street, that might be better if you are sensitive about noise. Breakfast was really great, a choice of cereals and flakes with fresh fruit, yoghurt and always fresh baked muffins or cake. You even get to choose your kind of eggs along with bacon and toast. Sheila did everything to start our day as best as possible! We met some nice guys at breakfast ( a nice couple from Ohio and another one from Sweden ) and soon we started talking and time passed by! Sheila also provided us with beach towels and beach chairs and we were off to Sandy Neck Beach just 5 minutes from the Inn . The Beach was not overcrowded and has some facilities like restrooms, showers and a beach bar where you can buy food and drinks for reasonable prices. Beach access costs $15 a day per car, but you are also allowed to use other beaches in Hyannis etc., too! We stayed the whole day at Sandy Neck and enjoyed it very much although the beach itself is not of the finest sand ( lots of stones and broken shells ), bring beach sandals if you have! . When we came back to the Inn after Dinner we found our fellow guests sitting by the fireplace with a bottle of wine Sheila had left for the evening, you are even allowed to take beer and water from the fridge! Well, we killed that bottle and a couple of beers and had a very entertaining evening! The next day our little round was expanded by two Dutch and two French and we had a second entertaining evening!
I selfishly hope that Sheila won't sell the Bursley Manor in the near future ( sorry, Sheila!), we would really love to come again!

We had a wonderful three day stay at the Bursley Manor. Sheila the Inn keeper was so accommodating. Breakfast was provided each morning along with lots of fun discussions. We were also provided a nice glass of wine each afternoon. The inn was quite charming and decorated very comfortably. Our room with king size bed and bath were very spacious. Sheila was more than ready to provide us directions or suggestions to anywhere on the Cape. She even took care of my hydrangea plant so we could go to the beach on the last day. (We picked it up on the way home.)

Room Tip: wicker room had King size bed and a huge bathroom

My wife and I wanted a quiet getaway on the Cape, away from the traffic and hassle of the Hyannis area. We found the Bursley and are SO happy we did! Sheila, the owner, is amazing - she takes excellent care of the charming place, and does her best to accommodate every request. She has great recommendations for restaurants and beaches, too.

FYI, the place is for sale. We wondered if that would affect the quality of the service, but it did not at all. In fact, Sheila is not sure whether she wants to sell or not, so don't let that stop you. Good beds, quirky but workable jacuzzis in every room, a wonderful breakfast made to your liking and beach chairs to borrow... the only minor negative is that the internet service is intermittent. We'll be going back!

I had the good fortune to discover the Bursley Manor online and liked the reviews I saw. Sheila was awesome, very accommodating and friendly. I especially liked the glass of wine at the end of the day. I was visiting my son who was working in Osterville for the summer, which was an easy 15 minute scenic backroad drive away. It was only 20 min. to get to Chatham and some great shopping, also very close to Hyannis and Mashpee. I also enjoyed morning walks in the area.

Room Tip: I was in 'Laura's' room, which faced the street, but there was very little traffic late...

In August, my husband and I were looking to really get away from it all over a long weekend, and we couldn’t have asked for a more restful retreat than the Bursley Manor.

With its cheery yellow façade and stately chestnut trees, the inn seemed to beckon us to come in and sit awhile. We did just that, relaxing in one of two spacious sitting rooms every evening we were there. The comfortable sofa, swathed in red-and-white toile and flanked by plush armchairs in red-and-white check, provided a cozy place for us to unwind in the evenings; we enjoyed watching TV or reading quietly. Rustic yet elegant, the brick fireplace, exposed ceiling beams, hardwood floors and beautiful antique furniture all contributed to the warm ambience. Helping ourselves to the chilled wine and snacks on hand, we felt right at home!

The room we stayed in, the “Mad Jack,” had the character we’ve come to love on Cape Cod. Named after a sea captain, it had charming nautical touches that you find nowhere else, like the sculpted mermaid and merman presiding over the fireplace mantel. Appointed with burgundy and gold bedding in a mahogany poster bed, the room felt luxurious yet homey. Although the bedroom was fittingly quaint, a Jacuzzi kept the bathroom refreshingly up-to-date.

Breakfast was bountiful and tasty thanks to the array of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, and coffee cakes that Sheila, the owner, served—not to mention cooked-to-order waffles, omelets and bacon. My husband and I appreciated that there were plenty of healthy choices. Chatting with other guests of the inn and Sheila was a treat.

We travel often, and know good hospitality when we experience it. Sheila was a superb hostess whose graciousness is well represented by the inn, which felt like home—only with magazine-worthy décor and historical flourishes. Staying at the Bursley Manor was like a breath of fresh air, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay off the beaten path, but within easy driving distance of Cape Cod destinations.

Sheila was a delightful hostess. We enjoyed coming downstairs in the morning to a colourful spread of fruit, granola, yogurt, and mixed pastries, with fresh coffee served as soon as we sat down. That was enough for us, although Sheila offered eggs, waffles, bacon, sausage -- anythng that might suit our fancy. Her home is a charming century Cape Cod country home, surrounded by lovely perennial gardens, very homey and inviting. We werervisiting friends in the area, so we didn't need a lot of ideas of what to do, but she gave us a guide to the Cape, which we enjoyed perusing.
