“Lower your expectation and then lower them again and maybe this hotel will reach them”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

We just came back from a 4 nights at the Mariner Motor Lodge that we choose because of Tripadvisor. It look like a good deal for the money (145$/night). Well it is not. Yes the room are kind of clean, but oh my god are they old. If you want to relive 1982, it's the place to go. The air conditionning only work in two modes: off or very noisy and extremly cold. It's like sleeping next to an airplane!. Actually, we could hear other rooms units coming on. The mini golf course is in a really bad shape, don't expect much of it. The pools are ok, the indoor one is quite convinient. I was disapointed that there was no cofee machine in the room. TVs are from the 80's and the picture is terrible, the CRT is dying, need to change them soon. Our room 237, the sink was loose and really hard to turn on the handle. The bath was badly repaired.

The room was only clean twice. We've once ask for extra towels, tooks 5 hours before we got them. But the icing on the cake was on the last day, I had an issue with my car battery and I need to jump it. Once I finally got cables, I ask the front office if someone could help me to jump the battery, the answer was nope, we don't want to be liable. I spent 550$ in that hotel and I couldn't get any help from the staff. For me that shows how much little care this hotel have towards their customers. Yes they are nice to give you towels and golf club, but when it counts, forget it.

We intent to go back to Cape Cod next year with the familly (two very young children), clearly we will look for somewhere else. The only really good side, the location, just few minutes from Seagull Beach and close to Hyannis.

Was looking for an affordable place on the Cape for a short stay. After checking T/A for something, found the Mariner and decided to book it after reading the reviews. It had everything we were looking for, affordable very clean rooms and grounds, indoor and outdoor pools and close to the beach. It also had a free nine hole mini golf course, small playground, grills and picnic tables which we did not use. The second floor room had two queen beds, mini fridge, small table and chairs, new looking carpet and overall looked fine. Room was quiet from street noise and didn't hear any noise from the other rooms. The downsides were a noisy a/c and a musty smell from the a/c for a few seconds everytime it started up,small bathroom with no vent and rock hard pillows.
This is a nice motel that provides the basics well at a good price. I would stay there again.

We stayed 2 nights at the end of July 2012. The motor lodge is right on route 28 through Cape Cod, so was easy to find, and good for getting around the area. It's near lots of shops, bars and restaurants so you can walk to them if you want to. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, and the reception area had a huge selection of leaflets for places to see and restaurants to visit. Staff were also very knowledgeable about the local area. Rooms were big, somewhat dated decor, but very clean, with two large beds, a TV, AC and a juliet balcony if on the second floor. The AC was very powerful. The lodge itself creaks underfoot and the walls were a bit thin so we could hear some TV and conversation from next door, but not too much. The indoor and outdoor pools were very welcome in the heat, and it has free mini golf. So if you want a good, cheap place to stay in mid Cape Cod, come here. Our only real disappointment was the strength of the free wifi in the room; we had wanted it to look up places and restaurants, but it was really slow, so we gave up most of the time. I've given in 4/5 based on the location, the cleanliness, the facilities, and the staff, which were all very good.

Room Tip: Second floor

We originally booked this lodge when we first visited Cape Cod 6 years ago. It is well situated being close to mid Cape so makes a good base for exploring. Staff are very friendly and helpful and there are both in and outdoor swimming pools. Rooms have small fridges which we found very useful and the air con is efficient but noisy. The one criticism is that the rooms are starting to look rather 'tired'. There has been no redecoration that we could see since our first visit and investment in new soft furnishings and bedding is now needed - sheets and 'blanket' were somewhat tatty and the pillows - well the less said the better! A coat of paint to freshen the place up would also be beneficial. Having said that, everywhere is kept clean, tidy and litter free so staff undoubtedly makes the most of what is there. It's also rather noisier than we remembered, perhaps because we were on the ground floor this time and footsteps in the room above could be clearly heard. It's just a real pity that the place seems to be slipping into decline and I really couldn't say that if we visit the Cape in the future that we would neccessarily choose to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor!

I stayed here about a week ago with my Wife and two-year old daughter. This was the first time I'd been back in about 5 or 6 years. The room was clean enough, but rather old and dated. Being that this is not a chain frachise type of hotel, I can understand this and I'm sure with the economy and all, a large-scale overhaul is out of the question. Reception and maid staff were very nice and our maid was very fast and efficient - I think a few of them were working as a team. Also, unlike stays I've had over the years at other motels up on the Cape (The Ambassador and Town and Country, namely) Th Mariner always stocked my room with nice, clean towels. Take advantage of buying your Yarmouth Beach passes there as well - you'll save $4 Mon. - Fri. Also, a friend of mine stayed in the adjacent room with his family. They have a real little one and I could not hear the crying through the wall. I'd reccomend this hotel and stay here again.

Easy check-in by a friendly front desk set the tone of the stay...overall staff was very good. Excellent care has been taken with the grounds, and both the indoor and outdoor pool areas. Rooms are average, but need updating. For example, there was an approx. 3" piece of Formica missing from the side of the bathroom sink & the painted plywood that it was adhered to was really cheap looking, which is too bad, because the bath floors and walls had been nicely updated, and cheap materials were NOT used. Bath & shower towels were puny. Rooms were VERY clean. Here's where the 'fixes' could come in: stop putting old, torn sheets on the beds. On the first night, when we pulled the bedspread down, it looked like someone had CUT a piece out of the top sheet, about 1"x2". I left a note and requested that a new sheet be put in it's place; again, we pulled the bedspread down, found the sheet had several holes that were apparent from wear and tear. One pillowcase was badly yellowed and had a 3-corner tear in it. Also, the ceilings are dingy in the room we stayed in; looks like when the room became non-smoking, they did not paint the ceiling. There were several conspicuous water stains on the ceiling too. Anyone staying on the first floor needs to be aware that when the people above you walk across the floor, you hear them loud & clear. Ditto for the voices on the other side of the wall, and they were not being loud - it was normal conversation. Our room faced a parking lot, and nice little play area where there were swings and a seesaw. The drawback? You couldn't sit outside your room on 2 of the days, because there was a septic odor. Not sure if the source was the hotel property, or one of it's neighbors, in all fairness. I've come to expect a little more from hotels, I guess, because this one wasn't up to snuff.

Room Tip: Second floor is better, because you eliminate the overhead noise.

We have stayed at the Mariner many times over the past 20 years. After not visiting the Cape for 4 years we returned to the Mariner. We found that the hotel has been updated and was in great shape. The staff is always available and very friendly. The rooms and common areas are always clean and the pools are both very well maintained. Whenever we asked for anything it was but a few minutes before our needs were addressed. The only negative thing could be the beds, that were full size instead of queen. We traveled with a family of 4 and the beds can be cramped. However I was told that they are in the process of changing all the beds from full size to queens!!! They used to have a small coffee shop near the indoor pool that was very convenient but that has been closed for safety reasons (fully understandable). But there are plenty of places around to get food, shop, and have a good time. We will definitely be returning next summer!!!

Room Tip: If you want access to the courtyard pool from your room get a courtyard first floor room. We found t...
