“A great Cape adventure”

Great Marsh Kayak Tours
Reviewed 30 September 2013

Went out with Bob for his new Nauset Marsh kayak tour. It was cloudy and windy when we launched from Hemening Road in Eastham. Bob said the trip was iffy, but the timing of the tide meant that we either went then or not at all. The poor weather looked like it might blow out so we went.
Bob did a great job of leading us through the Marsh and into a good 20 knot headwind. He had us hub the marsh to minimize the effect of the wind and avoided the dangerous mud flats at the low time that would have left us stuck in the muck. The payoff was terrific. We reached the opening to the Atlantic--where the Nauset Beach barrier opens not far from the Coast Guard Station--to paddle with a large group of grey seals. It was great fun to have these sea creatures popping up 10-15 feet from your boat. The trip back was timed to have us ride in on the rising tide. Bob was right and the weather cleared leaving a great blue sky and lots of sunshine.
Bob offered wonderful insights into the fauna and flora of the area as well as running commentary on the sea and shore birds we passed. He supplies everything that you will need including dry bags for the items you want to carry with you out on the water. He is friendly guy and a terrific guide. You will enjoy you time paddling with him wether you are a complete novice or an experienced paddler.

My wife and I had an exceptional morning of paddling and nature observation with Great Marsh. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that my wife and son returned for a second marsh tour a month later.

Over the course of a 3.5-hour kayak excursion, we saw a wide range of sea and marsh birds, crabs and other crustaceans, and plant species. We enjoyed a lovely and easy paddle through the marshes of West Yarmouth to the Nantucket Sound, capped by a visit to a beautiful harbor beach (Seagull perhaps?).

Everything you could possibly need - kayak, paddles, life vest, a water-tight plastic bag for your phone and wallet - is provided. You can choose a solo or tandem kayak, and all the equipment is impeccably maintained.

But what REALLY makes Great Marsh Kayak Tours a "must recommend" -- as is the case with so many tour outfits -- is the guide himself. Bob Wilds made the experience so exceptional, with his vast knowledge of local flora and fauna, his easy manner and his ready wit. What's really refreshing is that he cares equally about his customers and the environment he leads them through. He's exceptionally knowledgeable about the marsh and the wildlife there, and does a great job imparting fascinating insights about everything we took in. This kind of work has been his life, and he brings an incredible passion to it. He is a dedicated, hard-working Cape Cod native, and to be honest, supporting this kind of small local business felt great. Even without a Groupon, $49 for a 3.5-hour tour is an unbelievable value.

Thank you Bob! We will see you (yet) again for the Eastham tour!
