The 1896 House was a fabulous unknown spot. My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised by how nice the place was, the staff was pleasant, the cats were great, and the rooms fabulous. I would and have highly recommended the 1896 House. Walking distance to Mezze and close to Williamstown.

Room Tip: Stay in the King Suites. Big rooms, comfortable beds and easy access to both the Pub and Breakfast room

We absolutely loved the 1896 House. We got a luxury suite for two nights on Living Social, and for once it was actually better than advertised. The suite was huge, very comfortable, jacuzzi, fireplace at the foot of the king bed, etc., etc., etc. The Barnside Luxury Suite, including great breakfasts in the room right next door to ours, exceeded our expectations. We shall return! We checked out the Brookside rooms as well, and they would also be very comfortable even though not a suite. As part of the deal we got a complete meal at the '6 House Pub which was so good we went back on our own nickel the second night.

Room Tip: All the suites looked fantastic, and all the rest of them were even closer to the brook than ours and we had no noise at all.

We found ourselves with an opportunity to get away for an overnight, but had trouble finding a place in the Berkshires that didn't require a minimum two night stay. The 1896 House had a luxury suite available that we could have for the one night, so we grabbed it. We were not disappointed! The suite was huge; we had a comfy couch with a fireplace, a comfy king sized canopy bed, a dressing room, and a bathroom with a big enough for two jacuzzi. Little touches made the place fun and welcoming - a rubber duckie and bath salts for the tub, slippers and bathrobe, a fridge and glass wineglasses (which were delightful for the split of champagne we bought to make the night complete). We came on a very rainy day that had followed other rainy days, so the babbling brook outside our room was dramatic to look at and loud and delightful to hear. The place is near the road, but our room was at the end farthest from the road and we didn't hear street noise. Spent the day at MassMoCA in nearby North Adams, and returned to our delightful room. Next day we picked up hiking info at the front desk and took off to a nearby trail. The breakfast was good as far as hotel buffet breakfasts go, although nothing as good as one would get at a nice bed and breakfast; still, it hit the spot and was served in a lovely setting. If I were coming to Williamstown for theater I probably would not stay here because we like to be walking distance to the theater itself and this is on the outskirts of the town, but for hiking in the area or exploring beautiful Williamstown and returning to a relaxing luxurious room, it can't be beat.

Room Tip: #206 (Empire suite, I think) was farthest from the road. I am not sure if the other rooms would have been as quiet.

The 1896 House is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the Berkshires. The rooms are beautiful, very roomy, and clean. We enjoyed listening to the babbling brook while sitting in the wicker furniture on the porch just outside our door. The attached "Pub" has a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and the food is delicious - something for everyone. I would definately stay at the 1896 House again.

Room Tip: We stayed brookside and the room was great!

This was our third time staying at the '96 House. Each visit has been excellent. The rooms are spectacular with every possible amenity from a canopy bed to a jacuzzi!. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch in the wicker furniture and listening to the sounds from the stream flowing nearby. The breakfast in the morning was superb. The buffet was huge and the "special" was delivered with excellent presentation.
We went next door to the 6 House Pub and had a great meal chosen from an extensive menu. Thursday was "Shrimp Night" with a huge number of shrimp dinners listed for a price fixed meal.
All in all an excellent stay with very nice people!

Room Tip: Suite #6 is next to the stream so you can leave your window open at night and hear the soothing sounds of the running water put you to sleep!
