The 1896 House Country Inn - Barnside Inn
Ranked #8 of 9 Williamstown B&B and Inns
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We had a lovely overnight in one of the Barnside Suites. It was spacious, comfortable and remarkably well-priced, especially given summer in the Berkshires. Don't miss the delicious breakfast, either.

A friend and I recently stayed at the 1896 House in one of the Barnside Suites. The room was great and Denise and Sue were very accomodating. The complimentary breakfast was amazing and I have to say that it was one of the best omlettes that I have had in awhile!
If your travel plans take you to the Berkshires, you will not be disappointed if you stay here!

My fiancé and I like to snowboard and as I was looking for winter weekend getaway options last year I stumbled upon the livingsocial deal for The 1896 House Barnside Inn. The room boasted luxury accomodations, fireplace, jacuzzi, king canopy bed and candelit breakfast, at an affordable price. I thought it would make for a romantic snowboard getaway and booked a two night stay.

Our first time staying at the Inn was fantastic, we stayed in room 206 which was a spacious end unit tastefully decorated with antiques. It was nice to come back from a chilly day of snowboarding and warm up by the fire and to later have a candelit jacuzzi bath with bath salts (all of the items for which were thoughtfully provided in the room by the staff).

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our candelit breakfast the next morning and by the culinary skills and personality of the chef, Delores, she is truly a treat. We were made to feel special by our daily morning breakfast entree and the ample breakfast buffet featuring fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade muffins, and an assortment of lunchmeats and spreads. We never walked away feeling hungry.

The first time at the suites we made the mistake of having a big lunch prior to using our '6 House Pub voucher and as a result couldn't do the portions or the delicious food justice. We left the suites the first time around thoroughly impressed and willing to return again.

This year I once again found the living social deal for a two night stay at the suites and decided to pounce on the deal. This time around my fiancé and I decided to just stay in for a romantic weekend. We stayed in room 206 again (why mess with perfection) and spent the weekend relaxing and taking advantage of all the room had to offer. We dimmed the lights (all of the switches have dimmers) and curled up in the bed with the roaring firplace and watched movies all weekend ( the room comes equipped with a DVD player and sound system hookup for an ipod).

It was nice to see Delores again and my fiancé got to try quiche for the first time and absolutely loved it. Delores' s homemade pumpkin walnut muffins were also to die for.

This time around we went to the pub with empty bellies and were able to do the delicous food justice. We highly recommend the brushchetta, lobster bisk and london broil. Even with empty bellies we just couldn't seem to fit dessert, so our wonderful waitress packed us two to go desserts which we were able to bring back to our room and place in the fridge until latwr that evening.

This Inn is fantastic, as is all of the staff, accomodations, restaurant and attention to detail. My fiancé and I will be making our trip to the 1896 House Barnside Inn a yearly trip (with or without the snowboards). We can't wait to be back next year.

We stayed at the 1896 House for a three day ski trip and to exchange wedding vows in Bennington. The attention to detail at every level was wonderful, and the staff made our wedding getaway very special. Thank you 1896 House!!

This place is over-the-top wonderful! We will definitely return. We had a Living Social deal that gave us the opportunity to book a luxury suite at a great price. The suite had a king-sized-bed, gas fireplace, and a 2 person Jacuzzi tub. It was soooooo romantic. We also had dinner at their restaurant (also included with the Social Living deal along with a bottle of wine) and the food was fantastic! The breakfast (also included) was one of the best that we have eaten. Dolores was our breakfast chef and she was perfect. I highly recommend this inn. The only criticism is that on one of the nights, we went to fill the Jacuzzi tub and there was no hot water left, just very lukewarm water. I guess the other suites had already used all the hot water up? Maybe a bigger hot water heater would fix this problem because in the morning, there was plenty!

Room Tip: Suite 206 is perfect for a romantic weekend! It is at the end and the babbling brook is right next...

My husband and I just returned from our weekend getaway at the 1896 house. We had a fantastic time and hope to return in the future. I booked our trip through a livingsocial deal. The room was wonderful, very clean and spacious. We stayed in room 202, the turn of the century suite. The fireplace was great and very relaxing, as was the jacuzzi tub. All of the staff was great and very helpful, including Milo! Breakfast was delicious-- we had omelets one morning and waffles the next. The side items--fruit, breads, muffins, juice, tea, coffee, were as well. We enjoyed our dinner at the 6' House Pub as well. We highly recommend the 1896 house and look forward to another trip in our future.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 202, which was close to the breakfast room. I don't think you can go wrong wit...

My wife and I just returned from a 4 day stay at "1896" - one of the top 2 B & B's we have stayed in. From the room to the staff everything was top notch. The room was beautiful and very clean - Jacuzzi perfect at the end of a busy day. Breakfast was excellent - like having a personal chef. Dinner in '6 restaurant was also excellent as was the service. We will return.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Barnside King Room - has Jacuzzi and fireplace
