I only make it in a few times a year but I am always impressed with the food. They don't try and get carried away with a large menu. Just a few things that they do very well plus a special or two to make the decision just a little more challenging!

The Red Herring is exactly what it should be... it is a dive bar with a great hamburger... I mean fantastic. They added barbeque which was done in a smoker and quite good. The drinks are cheap and the staff is fast. You get drinks right away even when it is crowded.

Don't expect an upscale bar. This is a college dive bar. You almost have to look to find it. It is under the cinema downtown ... you'll see the sign on the side of the building.

During the day, it is pretty empty. A few older couples drinking Martinis. At night, it is the only thing open in Williamstown. They stay open until 2 a.m. Past midnight, you will most likely be bumping elbows with drunk college students. However, it is a pretty cool vibe considering you are in an Ivy League town.

The beer selection on draft is much better than expected. (try the German beer) And at $5 per draft and for $6 mixed drink specials, the prices are pretty good for a Berkshires town. The best part of the bar is the staff. The bartenders are awesome ... not pretentious at all, knowledgeable about the area and a lot of fun.

They serve food until 11 p.m. Wings are their specialty it seems ... and they have some super hot wings. The bartender let us try some of the sauces for the 'challenge wings' and there is no way a human could eat one. He warned us ahead of time, but one little drop of the sauce and my mouth was tingling for 30 minutes. The college kids in the bar said the more normal flavored wings were the bomb.

I'd be here a lot if I lived in the area. But keep in mind this is a divey bar ... if you are looking for more upscale places there are a few better options nearby.

Smells like a stale college bar. They do dank like few other food establishments. Moe (from the Simpsons) would be proud.
