“Small but informative”

Woods Hole Historical Museum

Off on a little side street one could easily overlook this small but interesting museum. There is an extensive history of the deep diving subs from the Woods Hole Institute and when we visited they had a very nice exhibit on the Titanic. Worth a stop if you are in the area. No fee but they request a donation.

Very nice exhibits -- kid friendly a lot of buttons to push a lot to learn I met the daughter of one of the captains of the DSV ALVIN one of the underwater robots -- she works in the gift shop and has some great stories to tell.

Open for archives only in the winter, this tiny museum comes alive in the summer with creative displays and events for the public. The museum was originally a dwelling in Woods Hole, but it also has a small enclave of buildings that include a 'spritsail', i.e., a small boat indigenous to the area. It's right next door to the Woods Hole Library, which is another historical gem. Both institutions may be small in scale, but they are vibrant places of friendly people and alive with ideas. It's fun to drop into both places because they are quintessential features of Woods Hole.

It was cool to see the replica of the Alvin, and they have a descent gift shop. It was small though, but it was only a $2 suggested donation, so it was worth it.
