The Inn at Cape Cod
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We stayed here three years ago and vowed we'd return - something that we'd never normally do as we're anxious to see as many new places as we can. However, for this place we were willing to make an exception. The building is beautiful. One can relax in the lounge area downstairs or in the shady garden. This time we stayed in the Plantation Suite, which has a balcony that runs across the front of the house. The room was spacious, with a huge four poster bed and flat screen tv, lounge area with fridge, fire (which we obviously didn't use in August but which would be very cosy in winter) and another tv and bathroom with shower. Molten Brown toiletries, robes, coffee machine on the landing with a generous jar of home made cookies on tap. Helen's cooking is one of the main attractions: breakfast is served inside or outside and consists of juice, home made granola, an imaginative fruit course, followed by a hot dish - sweet and savoury alternated - we had frittata one day, for example, a fabulous cranberry bake the next - and then a scone, muffin, slice of apricot Madeira etc. Wonderful stuff. Many of her recipes are on their website. Helen and her husband, Mike, are solicitous and always ready with useful information. This really is a very special place to relax. There's an excellent restaurant next door and others within walking distance. This is a great base to explore the cape. Would recommend unreservedly.

The moment you pull up to this stately Greek Revival masterpiece, you will step back in time and decompress! Along with the natural beauty of the northern route, The Inn at Cape Cod fits perfectly into the "iconic postcard feel" of Yarmouth Port! The owners/hosts, Helen and Mike are so genuine and friendly, and they obviously care for their Inn and grounds as much as they care for their guests! We stayed only 3 nights and wished we were staying longer! The breakfasts were as creative as they were delicious and obviously had been well planned out by the owners. The Inn actually has a self service area with coffee, tea, snacks, etc. available on both floors of the historic mansion so only a few steps to help yourself! There are so many areas of this property, both inside or out, in which to retreat and relax, including the grand front porch in the evening, which is absolutely a delight! As a bonus, there is a lovely restaurant only steps from the Inn. It is the perfect dining spot for those evenings you want to stay close but still want a quality dining experience with great food and a friendly wait staff.

The location of the Inn is very centrally located, and you can be anywhere on the Cape in any direction very quickly. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the Inn at Cape Cod - you won't be disappointed!

My husband booked our stay at the Inn at Cape Cod. We stayed for 7 nights in the second suite. The owners are very welcoming and looks after our every need. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed luxurious with a deep mattress and lovely cotton linen. The bathroom was big with a large bath and a separate shower. Luxury bath and shower products were provided. The breakfast was 4 courses, homemade and varied with items such as soufflé and lemon and blue berry pancakes. If you wanted something lighter this was also accommodated. Lovely homemade muffins or cakes were also served which we saved for later. Homemade cookies were always available in the afternoon which we always ate outside in the lovely garden with tea which we made in one of the two stations where hot water, milk, coffee and tea selections are available 24/7. (2 guest fridges and wine glasses are provided). You really want for nothing. There is a lovely lounge with a small computer for guests, and a whole library of books. There are are number of eateries within walking distance, a fish and chip shop, a pizza restaurant, a supermarket 10 mins by car. We walked to a small beach and a pond beach at the end of the road. (Other beaches charge a lot of money-15-20 dollars to park for the day with no discount for part of the day). This was a shock. This B and B is outstanding in every way.

Room Tip: They are all beautiful. Speak to the owners if you have mobility problems as there is no lift. The w...

Do not hesitate to book this Inn for a great stay. We spent three nights recently at one of the best Inns we have booked over the past years we have visited New England. Mike and Helen were great hosts and attended to all our needs while their guests. It is a terrific location and the Inn and grounds are wonderful. They serve a wonderful breakfast each morning and we had our breakfast on the terrace each morning which added to the enjoyment of the Inn. Our room was complete with period furniture and very comfortable. We are already talking about a return visit to the area and another visit to this great Inn on the Cape.

Room Tip: We chose the main floor bedroom at the front of the Inn. Our friends selected the suite directly ab...

My husband and I just returned from our stay at this lovely inn. Mike and Helen were kind and welcoming, and breakfast every morning was delicious! Our room was pretty and comfortable, but we most enjoyed sitting in the lounge each afternoon, reading and sipping tea in the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. One of the best parts of this inn is its location. We walked down to Dennis Pond more than once--it's under half a mile at the end of a quiet lane--and enjoyed swimming there as the water is much warmer than in the ocean and there are no crowds. A pretty little swimming lake! We also enjoyed the walking tour around Yarmouth Port, with the village green and the Gorey house just steps from the inn, and Captains' Mile running both east and west from the inn. It's a great area for walking! It's also a short drive to Barnstable Harbor where we had a fishing excursion and also had dinner at Matakeese Wharf (situated for terrific sunset views with dinner). Whale watching tours also depart from Barnstable Harbor. Our best dinner at the Cape, though, was at Old Yarmouth Inn next to the inn--highly recommended. Do not miss the sunset from Gray's Beach--stunning! We have nothing but praise for Mike and Helen, their staff, the inn, and the area. If you stay here, you are certain to have a fabulous time! We can't wait to go back!

Oh, my goodness, we are still smiling! Where do we begin to describe one of the best get-aways we ever took? We stayed with Helen & Mike Cassels at The Inn at Cape Cod for our 35th Wedding Anniversary and I literally texted family and friends and told them that we weren't coming home...that's how much we enjoyed our trip!! Yarmouth Port was the perfect location for our first (and hopefully many more) trip to Cape Cod. It is rich in history at every corner. With the helpful guidance of Mike and Helen...they will make wonderful suggestions, reservations, and book day trips for guests, we explored the Cape and Nantucket. The Inn is beautiful and extremely comfortable at the same time...and we are still talking about the delicious 4 course breakfasts and yummy homemade cookies. Thank you, Helen&Mike, for making our Anniversary so very special!!
Because of you, it was a trip we will never forget!! Debbie and Stu

We chose the Inn on instinct. The website and all the reviews point to this being a suberb place. They were wrong. It is better than that. Only the experience can do this wonderful Inn justice - and its location just adds to the magic. We had a wonderful time in Cape Cod and are so glad we chose The Inn for our stay - it really made our holiday. We loved the whole ambience of this beautiful house - and we really appreciated the hospitality and attention to detail by the owners, not forgetting the marvellous breakfasts! Nothing was too much trouble for Helen and Mike - they did everything they could to make guests comfortable, and assist with arrangements for restaurants, places of interest and making bookings. We cannot recommend The Inn at Cape Cod too highly, and we look forward to a return in the not too distant future.
