You may not expect much from a town this size, but this is done well. I love feeding the giraffes. The "Wild Africa" section is great!

We were a bit disappointed. Most of the animals were not visible as we walked through. The train ride placated the wee ones but only until we couldn't afford an expensive "piece" of lettuce (could have purchased a head for that price!) to feed the giraffes. Okay, I mean it was cute but the kids were unhappy and the only animal we actually got to see was that really cool old turtle! I know that these places take a lot of cash to run, but if you want people to come back you need to give them something to come back for. Even those that had been there is years past were surprised at the lack of personnel and animals. Isn't July a big tourist month? Oh, and the state bird (the mosquito) was out in full force so were your bug stray. Don't plan to make a whole day of it.

This was a very good day with a lot of enjoyment to look at in my grand-daughters face. The giraffes are one of the favorites, for a few bucks the kids can hand feed them. We also enjoyed the safari ride and the train. It is very educational, and many school children arrive daily.

This zoo is a gem! The African Wildlife area has a Giraffe Feeding station. If you have never fed a giraffe, this is the place to go. The guides sell the giraffe treats, and you are on a raised platform. Be sure to get there at least a couple of hours before closing time. The get to the Wild Africa area you can walk 1/2 mile, or ride the free tram. The tram station is just past the carousel.

We always ride the carousel. They have a wild animal carousel. It features many unusual animals. This is the ONLY carousel that I have ever seen that has a giraffe that goes up and down. It is in the center row, inboard of a stationary giraffe. This carousel ride is always a must for us 60+ year old youngsters. It is always worth the $2.

The aviary is small, but has some interesting colorful birds.

Regrettably, Tripadvisor's policy prevents me from mentioning one of their great fundraiser methods that involves collectible pennies, rolling, etc.

Note: When you drive into the zoo, stay to the left if you need to drop off anyone. The first parking lots that you see are a long hike to the entrance.

My daughter enjoyed feeding the giraffes and the carousel. She has been obsessed with giraffes ever since. We will definitely go again next time we're visiting family up in Michigan.
