Party of four celebrating an anniversary. Service at the lounge and drinks at Lakeview restaurant were great thanks to wonderful service from Amanda who was preparing drinks for the bar as well as waiting on tables in the lounge. We asked to move to the dining room for dinner and that is when things started going bad. Another server was assigned to our party of four for the dining room which was expected. The food, although expensive was pretty good except for one of the meals but the service was terrible. We were here on a Tuesday night and the dining room was barely occupied but every wait staff person in the dinning room was running around like they were lost. First time at a restaurant with these prices that I had to ask for a wine chiller when our bottle of white wine was delivered to the table. After tasting our bottle was just plopped down on the table and she was about to leave when I requested a chiller. Seemed that everything was an inconvenience for our server. Waitress never checked back to see if filet or steak were prepared to our liking. White fish was good. Shrimp and scallops mainly pasta. Need a dining room manager apparently. There was no one at the hostess station to discuss issues with even though the dinning room was still open for several more hours - we were dinning early around 6:15PM. Never offered dessert - had to ask - menu brought and after 40 minutes had a bus boy track down our waitress - he was kind enough to write down what we wanted and our waitress was in earshot when he told her we wanted to order dessert. ( her comment - I know). He came back to the table and apologized - she did not. Beautiful view of Lake Bellaire but needs lots of improvements. Don't waste your money here they are other options in and near Bellaire where they value your business and take time to make sure your happy.

If your an avid golfer or a weekend hack Shanty Creek is a must play for all! The golf is excellent. The courses are beautiful and tough..... but very fair. A friend of mine and I make an annual pilgrimage to play 36 plus holes a day for four days. The last three years we have played the Legend and Cedar River and have not been disappointed. The entire staff at SCR from the starters to the head professional are very friendly and willing to answer any question you may have. We have stayed at the Lakeview Hotel each time and have enjoyed the resort immensely. We have stayed at SCR the last night of our trip and honestly are pretty whipped after playing that much golf. We plan to stay the first night next year and take advantage of the free shuttle service that takes you into town and to the local brew pub Short's in Bellaire. I am not a skier but I can only imagine how cool it would be to spend a night or two in the winter as well.

Sorry this is a long review! It’s worth the read. :) My husband and I and another couple stayed at the resort at the end of July. We stayed at The Lakeview Hotel. The hallways reminded us of The Shining! Seriously, even the staff agreed with us! The hotel was nice, our rooms were clean and each room had a balcony. Our friends had a wet bar which was very useful. The cleaning staff were all very nice and they did a good job. We ate breakfast at the buffet the first morning. I think it was about $11 - I can't eat $11 worth of breakfast food. They also had a small menu to order from. We discovered awesome breakfast sandwiches at Arnie's Grill (attached to the pro shop) across the street - did I mention how awesome they were? AND we could grab and go play golf - perfect! The guy running Arnie's, Vic, had absolutely no personality! He seemed crabby. NEVER smiled or made small talk with us. By the end of the week I was hoping he had Saturdays off but no such luck.
Every morning we made bloody marys in our room, ordered a breakfast sandwich and headed to one of the golf courses. Wednesday and Thursday the courses were not crowded. Friday and Saturday the courses were crowded but still fun.
We played Summit first. It was not a good course but, again, we had a lot of fun. The second day we played The Legends and that was a great course! Cedar River was an awesome course. We were not able to play Schuss.
We ate at The Lakeview Restaurant twice. The first time we ordered the small plates (3 for $25). We weren't that hungry so each couple ordered 3 and we were glad we did. The plates were not small (no complaining here!). Everything we tried was really good. Matt was our server and at first he was shy but by the end he was having as much fun as we were. There was a propane convention at the resort and they had hot air balloons for the convention guests. It was beautiful! We sat at the dinner table and watched the hot air balloons. After dinner we went back to our room to sit on the balcony and the view was spectacular. The sunset was colorful and the hot air balloons looked amazing after the sun went down. Thank you propane convention!!
The second time we ate at The Lakeview Restaurant we ordered entrees and Matt was once again our server. I ordered the fish special - yummy! My husband ordered the steak..it was strange...it had grill marks but it was very clear that it was not grilled but broiled. Our friend had the duck - order the duck! Delicious and perfectly cooked! We requested for the chef come by our table so that we could thank him for the meal but he was too busy (the restaurant was crowded), so we asked Matt to pass along our compliments. There was live music (a guy and his guitar) and he was pretty darn good.
I liked the resort but we made our own fun. We went to the grocery store in town and bought Zin Zang's Bloody Mary Mix and vodka (the mix at the resort was awful). We also packed our own cups with lids from home (golf carts are not forgiving and I don't like spilling drinks :)). We also bought some fruit, cheese and crackers to snack on in the afternoon and it was perfect for late night munching (every room has a refrigerator). We also bought bottled water – gotta stay hydrated.
In the end, I had a great time at the resort! There was a pool but we didn't have time to swim with all the golf and fun we were having.

We bagan coming to Shanty Creek in 1987, eventually bought a condo at the resort. We loved coming to the resort and area so much we eventually sold the condo and built a vacation home. Moved here permanently in 2011. Shanty Creek is a fantastic place to live, visit or play. You won't find a friendlier resort in northern MI. Great skiing in winter and golf in the summer.
