Description: The newly re-invented Bella Piatti opened February 13, 2013 under new ownership and is already on it's way to be the hot spot in Birmingham. The traditional Italian menu with a contemporary twist was created by Chef Francesco Apollonia, who was born and raised in Venice, Italy. The restaurant, designed by Jeff Fontana, offers a warm, whimsical and inviting dining experience. The menu is comprised of traditional pastas, risotto, fish, mouth-watering steaks and a variety of appetizers and desserts. Fresh seasonal produce, exceptional quality products, artisanal ingredients make dining here an authentic Italian experience.

Eight of us dined at a round table in the center of the restaurant surrounded by a chain mail curtain--a clever device to give the impression of privacy in a crowded restaurant. The service was prompt and attentive, and most of our food was excellent. For starters, the tomato bisque was very rich and tasty, the orange salad was refreshing and delicious, and the mussels were tender and garlicky. They served three wonderful complimentary spreads with the french bread--a roasted red pepper butter, roasted garlic cloves in olive oil, and an olive tapenade. For entrees, the pork chop was cooked to perfection, the whitefish with potato truffle crust was tasty, and everyone enjoyed their pasta selections--the salmon and lobster pastas were both a big hit. The only disappointment was the linguine with white clam sauce--it was so salty that it was sent back. But the dish was quickly remade, and served by one of the owners with profuse apologies. It didn't mar our special evening out, and we will definitely return.

Chef Francesco has done a fantastic job of bringing together great food, warm service, and attractive design in his restaurant. I had quail with mushroom risotto, which was wonderful. My wife's filet was a bit dry. Wine selections were very good, with some very affordable selections. Waiter Tim was attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We look forward to going back. BTW, the restaurant is right across the street from The Townsend. This is the shortest walk I've ever had to go out to a restaurant!

Went for dinner last night & could not fault anything about the restaurant, great ambience, fine dining, excellent service. A credit to the owners. This is a completely different class of Italian fine dining from my last review of a so called fine dining restaurant in Barbados last week whilst on vacation.

We met another couple for two birthdays and an anniv. Celebration on Friday night. Place was packed but we were able to get three seats at bar. Reserv's for eight o'clock and were seated about 8:20. Our waiter, Rusty was excellent. Yes it is a little crowded and noisy but I didn't find it a turn off. BF had the octopus Carpaccio and Halibut Cheeks for apps. Both were devoured. Halibut was the hit, tho. He also chose the pork chop which was huge and cooked to perfection. Juicy and tender. Said it was the best he's ever had. I had the pasta ribbons with Bolognese sauce. Very good. Rich. Tomatoey. The other couple had chicken and caper dish and were completely satisfied. Since we were celebrating so much we all four were offered free dessert. Two Tiramisu, Pear dessert( amazing!) and something else. All very good. All in all a wonderful, delicious evening and I think the bill split was $110 each. Two drinks only. Will def. go again. Both owners came by to make sure we were happy. Bar service was great and friendly too!

Went here for dinner and was very impressed with the quality and choices of food as well as the excellent service we received. We also had the opportunity to share the dining room with Mark Wahlberg while he was in town shooting Transformers! Great place to see stars who are staying at the Townsend Hotel.
