Our last evening in Michigan so lets have a special meal at Sagano. It was a Monday evening, Aug 9th at 8:00pm and we were the only customers. We sat through the usual crash bang of food preparation which was average only. We were still finishing our bottle of wine at 9:15pm when the manageress approached and asked us to leave as she wanted to release the staff to go home. Never before have we been asked to leave a restaurant to enable the staff to go home. The managerss could have released the staff and stayed on herself but clearly the charm school that she had attended never explained that one to her !!
I arrived back at my hotel and immediately wrote her an e-mail complaining about the poor customer service. I received an automated response but have never had a reply from the restaurant. My visit was on the 9th August and as at 19th August still no reply.
Our hosts for the evening, who have visited many times before, were so embarrassed and have sworn never to return.
So, if you like your pseudo-Japaneese food served noisily and enjoy being asked to leave once it gets near to their bed time then go to SAGANO ...I won't

The food was good...and plentiful. But the best part was the entertainment. Our chef was hilarious and added to the experience! The prices are high but well worth the cost.

It is hard to find a place that will accommodate my daughters Shellfish Allergy but from the moment we walked in the door to the end of our meal we never had a concern that we would be running her to the ER that night. The staff took every precaution the could to give everyone a wonderful and safe meal. My husband and I had Scallops and the other party had shrimp so it was a bit scary. The Chef took the time to listen to our concerns and then the time to explain to the other party that he would cook the none shellfish foods after the veggies, noodles and rice then move on to the shellfish so that we could all enjoy our meal. It was a wonderful 18th birthday for our daughter who loved the food and felt like she could eat without concern. Thanks Sagano for a wonderful evening.

Our 10 year old granddaughter chose this restaurant for her birthday dinner. We were surprised at her choice, but delighted with the outcome. The chef at our hibachi was entertaining, and he cooked up generous portions (which made yummy take-home meals). Her birthday coincided with kids' night - $4 meals - which made it even better. We'll be back.

We've been eating here for the last year or so, and it is truly my favorite local restaurant. Granted, I've never tried the sushi (I'm vegetarian), but the hibachi never disappoints. The chefs have stellar attitudes and skill, and the food is absolutely delicious. It's also very convenient that you can make reservations through Open Table!
