I noticed that in a few reviews, probably not a good sign. We stopped at another hotel that was booked up. The woman at the front desk called around and the only thing that she was able to find for us was 42 miles in the direction that we had come from. Since our plans had us traveling 35 minutes in the opposite direction, and it was getting late, we decided it would be better to stay at something that was a little more "rustic" than we are used to.

Walking into the office took my breath away... No, really the musky smell almost killed me. The owners were very nice and said that they did have a room available for $115 (plus tax) $127 total. They asked if we wanted to be on the "lake side" which was a redeeming quality, in my mind. I imaged opening a window, looking out at the lake and enjoying the fresh breeze blowing into our room.

When we pulled around the building, we realized that the rooms do not actually face the lake that was a few hundred yards away, they are just situated near the lake. No breeze or view to speak of. No big deal, we had to freshen up and get ready for our evening plans. As another reviewer stated, there were people hanging out in front of the adjacent rooms that looked to be "homeless or in rehab but they were harmless.

Once we opened the door to the room, we (again) smelled a musky scent and the room was dark and outdated. It felt a bit damp and we were not sure of the cleanliness overall. The bathroom was extremely outdated and the water smelled (faintly) like sewage.

As we headed out for the night, we decided to stop by the Dollar General and purchase some sheet and pillows. This enabled up to get a pretty decent nights sleep and it actually felt kind of like camping in a small cabin.

Showering in the morning was more like standing in a mister with the (sewage) water (hopefully) getting us clean. It was only a faint sewage smell, so we hoped for the best.

This would probably be a fine place to stay for someone looking for a rustic travel lodge, but for $127 I expected a lot more. This room would go for $19-$29 per night in the area that we live.

Booked a room here because it was the only place that had a vacancy. I found out why...it's a dump. Most of the guests appear to be long term residents, not tourists. None of the reviews I found before making a reservation accurately described the deplorable condition of the S&S. It is truly a scary place. When we saw the clientele lounging outside the adjacent rooms, we turned in the key and left...never even entered the room. You'd be better off sleeping in your car.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere. We drove to Lansing and stayed at the Crowne Plaza for about the same price as the S&S.

Was there for a motorcycle swap meet. Can't tell you what a delight it was to stay in this diamond in the rough. The owners are so accommodating one of the people we were with room was cold and the owner came and brought them a space heater. Our room was nice and toasty! Went over to Charles for dinner. Recommended from the owners had a wonderful meal! Thanks again to the owners see you next year!

Decided on a last minute trip to Cadillac on a very busy weekend. Every other hotel was booking up while I was on the phone. Tried this one after finding it on a Google.
Fantastic price, very clean rooms, and the owner stayed up past midnight to welcome us. Very very friendly at such a late hour.
Tiny bathroom and dated, but a steal for the price!
