Stopped in at this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and ordered the "Surf & Turf", which according to the menu this included a T-bone steak and 1/2lb of crab legs. The T-bone was an inferior piece of beef, in fact the tenderloin portion of the T-bone wasn't included, just the strip side; aside from that the steak was tough and had a lot of gristle.

The presentation of the meal was also very poor, the crab legs were served sitting dirrectly on top of the steak. As a result, all of the water that was in the crab legs was dripping out all over the steak and the rest of the plate, thereby cooling everything off and producing a rather disgusting "gravy" on the bottom of the plate. By the time I was done with the crab legs the staek was looking very bad, and upon cuttting into it ... well, see paragraph above. Seems like they should serve the crab legs on a different plate?

An unusually disappointing experience this time.

Average food. Service wasn't very good. Nice outdoor area for dining.

I'd agree with some earlier reviewers that since they moved the atmosphere at the Blue Pelican is different. The food is still really good. Service is pretty good. Now it seems as if they are trying to be a cross between the old Lamplighter and Blue Pelican. The new dining room is wonderful, but a little stiff and formal. To me, the bar or the porch is the best place to have dinner. For an even more casual atmosphere I like the Side Door Saloon down in the basement. It was a nice place to sit and watch the Tigers.

Another fantastic dinner at The Blue Pelican...this time we had dinner on the deck which is a nice change and different from eating inside. The fish entrees (walleye and salmon) were outstanding. The wine list was very good. The french fries...well, they are the absolute best we've ever eaten! Service was great too. Don't let the small town fool you. This is a terrific place to eat!

It's been several years since we've ventured to Central Lake and when we arrived last week we discovered that the old hotel had had a face-lift and that the Blue Pelican had settled into the main floor. Encouraged by the vegetarian offerings on the menu I was quickly disappointed with the meal. The main entree was quite good, but the side dishes were simply awful. Steamed vegetables with all of the presentation that might be mustered by a high school cooking class, and wasabi mashed potatoes which lacked any hint of wasabi and frankly looked, and tasted, like those instant cafeteria spuds dished out with an ice cream scoop.

The charm of the old hotel and its restaurant are also gone. The quaint gravel and shell car part has been black-topped, and the charming wallpaper in the dining room has been stripped and replaced with lackluster paint. What we thought was going to be a more up-scale meal turned out to be that only when you examine the receipt.
