“Warm from the oven”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

We stumbled on this place. We both had coffee, different kinds, both very satisfying, and a mixed berry scone each. I've never had a scone that was more like a strudel, but these were wonderful, fresh and warm from the oven, and the scone crust was perfect. A lovely atmosphere and friendly service.

“Not up to standards”
Reviewed 15 July 2011

We ordered three wrap sandwiches an an omelet. I think they had to wait for the chickens to lay the eggs! It too over a half hour for our order to start to arrive and then it came in installments.

“Run, don't walk, to this Charlevoix bakery gem”
Reviewed 22 June 2011

Our family wandered in to Simonsen's because I wanted a cup of coffee - and they had the only sign we could see along all of the main Charlevoix business street that sold coffee. My goodness, we were blown away by Simonsen's.

The owner is a graduate of Cordon Bleu's pastry chef training in Paris. His diplomas (he graduated from three levels of Cordon Bleu training) are prominently displayed on the wall behind the display case.

And, wow, can he bake. We had two kinds of cookies, and an eclair. They were magnificent. Delicious. He makes everything entirely by scratch - everything. And, makes it fresh daily (of course).

We also noted that he offered a full lunch menu, bistro-style. We were too late for lunch, but the menu looked wonderful. There are about six small tables in the restaurant and lovely big windows on two sides of the Cafe.

Who knew that such a bakery was sitting at the end of Bridge Street - it's nearly the last business in the downtown.

This bakery and cafe has my highest rating. The quality of the food is superlative. And, I would also like to note the level of congeniality and pleasantness on the part of the owner and his staff. They made my family feel very welcome and we had a lovely chat with him. We asked him many questions about his training and his baking, and he cheerfully responded.
