“Great State Park, Better if you have a boat”

Just stayed here 5 night and had a great time. The kids love the beach, we were there 2-3 times every day. Nice and sandy after the first 10 feet and no higher than 3 feets even past the buoys. Water can be choppy if the wind is blowing. Watch your steps walking on the jettys, beautiful sunsets.. Camp store is one of the nicer ones. Fantastic donuts and ice creams. Couple negatives, we didnt have a boat, so definitely was jealous of the campers who did, kids playground is nothing, so bring things to keep them occupied. Bathrooms are small and can become gross late at night before they clean them. We will be back in a few years..

...Don't camp here. Burt Lake state Park has the better beach areas. Aloha is a nice campground with a few problems. 1. They close one of restrooms first thing in the morning for 2.5 hours starting at 8 or 8:30. That's stupid and not sensitive to guests morning needs. 2. They don't have a nice beach area. Although waterfront sites can access the water right from their site, the shoreline is rocky and pretty mucky until you get out a bit. 3. The shower areas doesn't provide much privacy and the floors are very very wet and slippery. 4. Not much playground equipment.
On a positive note, they do rent bikes and like others have said, the little store at the entrance of the park is pretty cool providing fresh hot cake donuts!

This was our first time at the park in July. There were 2 power outages the week we were there, one of which effected our loop. That was definitely an inconvenience. Having said that I can only imagine everything was overloaded with the heat and everyone running AC, it was mid 90’s for days. Sunsets are beautiful. Park store and their famed donuts are really second to none. Proximity to town for convenience, to Mackinaw city for day trips and other area stops makes it a good destination. If you are a boater I wouldn’t look much further than here, mullet lake is fantastic. If you are looking for an immersive nature experience probably look around a little more.

A nice state park on a large quiet lake. Right off the North Eastern State Trail and easily accessible from the northern end of the North Central State Trail. Stop at the store near the entrance for great donuts!

We generally try to visit Aloha State Park at least once a year. We went the weekend before the 4th of July this year. It was miserably hot this time around (90s and 100% humidity). In my last review, we commented on the lack of playground equipment for smaller children. They have since removed the slide and now the only thing remaining are two sets of swings for the entire campground. I wish that with all the open ground they have near the camp store they would install a proper playground area for families. Trails nearby are nice, water is nice, beach is rocky and and small but sand bottom once you get out a way. Bathrooms are still outdated and small considering the amount of sites (2 showers, 3-4 stalls). And during our stay...the bathrooms were filthy with mud, dirt, and water...very slippery too...they get cleaned once a day...probably need a few more checks on busy "full" camp weekends. The dump station/water filling was slow moving this time...water was just trickling out of the water filling station hose. They conveniently have wood for sale in the park at a comparable price per cord. Stay of the jetties...unless your Indiana Jones the path is not safe and a trap for turned ankles and rough falls. The camp store is great for forgotten items or small grocery items. They have donuts too and I heard pizza to but we have never had that. Sites are grassy...pay attention to notes when reserving. If it says wet or poor drainage expect water and mud. Otherwise, you cannot beat the Aloha sunsets...they are beautiful. We call Aloha the "old people's" campground...meaning older campers, or families with older children seem to enjoy it most. Our kids do well but there is certainly no parent down time on a bench while the kids play at a park type of opportunities. Bring your own entertainment...bean bag toss, ladder ball, bocce, bubbles, frisbee, etc. And if you have a boat...then, yes, this is the campground for you!
