Lake Fanny Hooe Resort & Campground
Ranked #3 of 8 Hotels in Copper Harbor
Reviewed 6 August 2014

This year was my second year to spend a full week at this resort campground. This year I brought along several family members who simply enjoyed not only Copper Harbor, the Jam Pot Bakery, and dinner at the Harbor Haus, but also the campground and the owners. Owners Ed and Dawn were very helpful and courteous. Ed went above and beyond assisting me in trying to find out why my travel trailer was not converting from truck (hitch) power to the 30 amp hook-up (which we never did. Ended up using a battery charger to maintain the 12 volts on the RV battery). I spent a few hours fishing on the very beautiful and peaceful Lake Fanny Hooe, which is right on the resort grounds, and was successful in catching a couple of yellow perch and several large bass (used Canadian Crawlers). The rental rates on the motor boats, row boats, and canoes are more than reasonable. The campground itself is very well maintained and the restroom and showers were always clean, as was the clubhouse. The wifi is slow, but I didn't travel 600 miles off the beaten path just to surf the web! I highly recommend this campground for those looking to camp while visiting Copper Harbor. There are also cabins and a motel on the property for those not of the camping nature. And when you do visit, ask Ed how my ribs were :-)

When you make a reservation request an odd numbered site. They only run water and electrical to the middle of two site so if you have an even numbered site you might need more that a standard 25' electric cord and 25' water hose. The setting was beautiful including a private beach on lake Fanny Hoo and only 4 blocks from Copper Harbor, but the flies were awful. We didn't bring a screen room and spent nearly every meal fighting off the flies (this might have just been a late July event.)

There were plenty of ripe wild blueberries and if you wanted fire you only had to look at the roadside to grab firewood. The creeks, lakes and waterfalls were all beautiful. They have a lounge which is great. The bathrooms and showers were centrally located and always clean.

For good or bad you are cut off from modern communications. It was a fifteen minute ride up the mountain to get cellphone coverage and if you wanted data it was closer to 30 minutes. We could not get the campsite wifi to work consistantly. This could either be a boon and a tragedy depending on your situation. We unfortunately had to stay in touch with work which led to twice daily rides up the mountain.

Room Tip: Get an odd numbered site or you might need an extension cord or hose to hook up.

We stayed here for two nights while vacationing in Copper Harbor. There is a campground, some cabins and a little hotel, which is where we stayed. All rooms have either balconies or patios overlooking Lake Fanny Hooe, with beautiful water views The lake is very clear and surrounded by trees, so quite picturesque. Our room had a little refrigerator, a two-burner cooktop and a cupboard loaded with dishes and cooking supplies. It was very basic and definitely older, though clean and quiet. There is no hair dryer, iron or ironing board, air conditioning or phone in the room, though there is a pay phone outside (necessary because there is no cell phone service in this area unless you go to the summit of the Brockway Mountain Drive and hold your phone at certain angles). There was a little fan in the room,. which was a godsend because the room was quite warm when we arrived at sunset. There are definitely lots of rules for people staying here, though they were not a problem for us. Good value for the money, though perhaps a little more "rustic" than we are used to. It was lovely to wake to the beautiful view and the sound of birds and frogs outside our window.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms-there is one small hotel block and all have a great view of the lake.

Lake Fanny Hooe RV Campground is small, but it's very clean and well situated. It's got its own inland lake, a hotel and of course, full hook-up sites for us RVers.

Clubhouse, bathrooms and showers are clean. Laundry facilities are also spotless (but only 4 washers and 4 dryers, so get there early bc peak time appears to be 9 a.m. - noon).

Staff is friendly and helpful. Bill is a real hoot. Bring your sense of humor and thick skin because he's gonna say some funny things which cranky people will not find funny. (We did).

Park is located just down the road from Copper Harbor's fire department and welcome center. You can walk to the town's general store and ice cream/candy establishments quite easily and quickly.

Prices are good -- about $20 more than Ft Wilkins State Park, but you get full hook ups and 50 amp service! Aaaaah. You can run the rooftop AC and use the microwave at the same time!

There's a playground with swings and slides near the clubhouse/laundry/restrooms, and lots of open space to park the largest 5th wheel.

Hands down, the best up north resort around. Clean and friendly. No stones were left unturned. This family oriented resort is clean, reasonably priced, and offers every outdoor experience of the north that you could ask for. Waking up to the voice of the loons was the much needed serenity I was looking for. The staff was more than accommodating and very friendly when I asked my 50 questions about what to do, where to go, where to eat, etc. I can't wait until we return

Room Tip: all rooms, cabins and campsites are aged to perfection, but cleaner than my mothers kitchen. They r...

Copper harbor is great my advice is book somewhere far in advance to avoid staying here.. Owners are extremely rude.. And no the policies were not explained to me over the phone because I would have stayed somewhere else.. Its a little late after driving so many miles to get there.

I camped here in August and it was a great place! The staff was very friendly at check in and throughout the stay. The campground was very clean and quiet unlike most state parks. The location is great! Overall we had a very good stay and will most definitely be back!
