We booked to stay at The Scafell hotel early in 2012 (to avoid disappointment), after staying several times the last few years and seeing their NEW YEAR package.....which looked fantastic.
What can I say except..WOW!! They promised to deliver a New Year to remember and that's exactly what they did. As usual the staff were extremely friendly, making us and our children feel very welcome.
We were greeted with afternoon tea which was just the scrumptious treat we needed after a long drive. After a relax, then a shower and change into our special evening wear, we made our way down to the cocktail bar for champagne cocktails. The children were even made cocktails "non alcoholic of course", which made them feel special too.
We then had a wonderful 5 course gala dinner which was outstanding as usual.
After dinner we were led to the cocktail bar again, when the staff transformed the dinner room into a disco, where we partied the night away. Once the clock struck 12am, everyone did the Auld Lang Syne, the atmosphere was amazing.
Then to top the evening off, we were treated to a brilliant fireworks display in the gardens.
The best New Year we have had for years!!
New years day started with a lovely breakfast cooked to order. We were then taken on a guided walk round the valley, which for us was just long enough for the children. They did offer a longer and harder walk for the more advanced walkers. It certainly cleared the cobwebs away from 2012 and gave a great start to 2013.
After lunch we had time to relax in front of the open fire in the lounge area, which was lovely.
Again we got treated to an outstanding 5 course dinner, accompanied by a singer who was fantastic.
Overall we all had a fantastic time and were spoiled well and truly rotten, so much so that we have booked for next year before we even left :)
I have noticed a review posted for the New years break and to be honest I found it unfair. The reason we originally booked The Scafell Hotel a few years ago was because they were a dog friendly hotel, which it clearly states their Dog policy in the Terms and conditions of the website. They would clearly tell anyone who wanted to book their policy on dogs, they even have a dog visitor book on the reception desk, for owners to note their dogs stay, which has been there for years and years. They do not hide the fact that dogs are allowed in the hotel. They do NOT allow dogs in the dining room, so I feel their policy as far as dogs around food is more than fair. We have also stayed here both with and without our dog and I have never had a problem with the cleanliness or Dog smell in any room we have stayed in. I feel that it is the responsibility of the person booking the room to make sure that pets are not allowed if they have an allergy, so I don't blame the Hotel if they weren't offered a refund.
