Excellent hotel in a beautiful location. Stayed for 3 nights and ate in the restaurant every night- the choice on the menu was excellent, changing daily. The room was clean and comfortable.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, we couldn't of asked for a more relaxing and enjoyable mini moon.

One of those places that gets away from all the hassle of working life. Comfortable bar, inviting hosts and great food made for a very pleasant stay. Old style hotel yet the room and bathroom are new. Also has a very lively pub next door if you want an injection of fun. Beautiful area, felt somewhat like an oasis of peace. Will be going back.

Room Tip: There a suite but be quick I think theres just the one

Booked through Travelzoo. The location of this hotel is just excellent. Good access to all the main walking areas in an area of outstanding natural beauty. On a short stay vacation you will not need to use the car just park up and either explore the outdoors or enjoy the hotel.
The staff at this hotel are polite and engage well with the guests. They are heart beat of this hotel and the manager should be proud of them.
The standard of the food in the restaurant is exceptional and is a must for all the guests. We used both the main restaurant and the Walkers bar, owned by the hotel situated immediately behind the hotel and the food was again very good, cooked by the same chef.
We took are little Westie dog and he was welcomed throughout the hotel but obviously they are not permitted in the main restaurant.
The rooms are very clean and tidy but are on the small size, but do not let that put you off. I would recommend anyone wanting to get away from it all the opportunity to stay at this hotel, it will not disappoint.

Beautiful setting, great attention to detail and friendly service.
Excellent breakfast, cooked to order with everything we wanted on offer.
Had a meal in the riverside bar, which is attached to the hotel. Initial impressions of the bar were that it was a bit basic for the type of meal we wanted but when the food arrived it was excellent.
Great shower which was very welcome after a long wet walk.

We just got back from a weekend stay at Scafell hotel. It's in a beautiful location in the borrowdale valley. We went with another couple and loved the friendliness of all the staff and as we had our dog with us it was a proper dog friendly hotel and Jeff our boxer was properly fussed over. The dining experience here was excellent with a 5 course dinner in their lovely dining room both nights. We had a room with a river view which was lovely, the only down side to the room was that it was very hot. We did turn our radiator off but the towel rail in the bathroom was so hot we had to keep the bathroom door shut to stop it overheating the bedroom. our friends had same in their room. The room was small but as we only used it to sleep in wasn't a problem. We did a 7 mile valley walk on the Saturday and it poured with rain all the way. Put our wet boots in the boot box in reception and they were dried, stuffed with newspaper and ready to go again this morning. We would definately return to this lovely hotel.

Our friend Claire Gallie has said it all. We agree with her review and all she has said although we didn't get to have a go in her jacuzzi ha ha, but we had the view of the river. Thanks to all the staff at Scafell for a brilliant stay we will come again. A 5 star break.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District's renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. Our rooms were fully refurbished during 2010, in a Warm and Rich Country House style with a 'Contemporary Twist' perfect for setting the scene for a peaceful and relaxing break in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The Restaurant, Lounges and Bar have been tastefully decorated and furnished to retain that all important Country House warmth, allowing for complete relaxation after a great days walking on the Fells, and maybe even a little 'nap' by the fire after a delicious five course Dinner. Under the constant direction of owner's Miles Jessop MBE (Chairman) and Andrew Nelson (Managing Director) the Management and Team of Scafell Hotel offer truly warm and friendly service.
