Spent one night at Scafell Hotel while on C2C. After walking from Ennerdale Bridge we received a warm welcome in a more traditional larger older style hotel . We stayed upstairs in a compact room with a little too much furniture for comfort. The bathroom however was modern and lovely and on a hot evening it was good to be able to open windows in both the room and bathroom to enjoy a cross breeze. We were happy that Macs no longer books C2C guests in for the 5 course dinner offered by the hotel as this was not what we wanted after a long hot walk. Instead we ate in the tiny outside area next to the lovely stream in the riverside bar. The food was fine , service in the bar varied with some offhand staff and some very pleasant . Next morning breakfast was served in the formal dining room and was a grand affair, with friendly staff, and a fabulous selection of cooked and continental choices. Overall I would recommend this hotel as it was well located, comfortable , quiet and a genuine slice of well presented old England. A real treat for an overseas visitor. We stayed as part of a C2C package so I can't comment on value for money.
