This is the 3rd time we've visted the professionally ran Scafell Hotel and we will go back for more! The ambience of the whole place is just amazing, and nothing is too much trouble for the management and staff. You must try a gourmet meal in the resturant and a pint of ale in the Riverside Bar! Chilling out in the lounge afterwards ended most nights perfectly. The walking is brill too, we've done a few low level, and one more challenging, but it could suit most walking tastes. It is also good to note that when we stayed the rooms were being re-furbished, we had a peep...AMAZING. But room 14 is still our favourite with it's jacuzzi bath and wonderful furniture. We honestly feel that this hotel and surroundings has it all!

We stayed at the Scafell hotel about 18 months ago and were really suprised and impressed on our return visit! A major refurbishment was nearly completed of all the bedrooms which was fantastic! We had a new room with a beautful free standing bath(large enough for 2!) and completed to a very high standard (loved the H2K products - very luxurious). THe room itself was beautifully decorated and a lot of time and money has obviously been spent on the fixtures and fittings. We felt very spoilt and was very tempted to order room service at the bed was so comfy! THe service again couldn't be faulted and we noticed they had changed the breakfast adding a beautifull buffet table with freshly cooked hot pastries, trays of fruit, meat and cheese alonside the hearty cooked breakfast on offer! We didn't need lunch as it set us all up for theday on the fells! The evening menu changed daily again and had a great choice on offer. Small touches such as the feshly cooked nibbles before dinner were a lovely idea! Highly reccomend this hotel with its relaxed atmosphere! We will back in the next few months!!

Great location, fabulous room(half of the bedrooms have been totally renovated in 2008 and the rest to be renovated 2009). Very friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely atmosphere and very comfortable. Worth a visit for the food alone, absolutely fantastic. If you need a pick-me-up then spend a few days here, you won't be dissapointed.

We have visited the Scafell Hotel quite a few times now, and our favourite time of year there is our pre-Christmas weekend break.

We were allocated Room 1, which we had stayed in several years before and found it a pleasant and comfortable room. We were aware that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment , and we had been allocated the newly refurbished Room 1. What a transformation! Beautiful fabrics and furnishings, new windows, the room was unrecognisable.

The staff were as attentive and friendly as ever and the food was delicious. The scenery is breathtaking and the hotel was all prepared for Christmas, with cosy log fires and decorations.

One member of our group after complaining about a minor problem with their room was told by the manager,
"If you don't like it - leave!"

The ajoining riverside bar has gone down hill in recent years, as has the beer they serve. The 'best burger in borowdale' i think took that title, because it's the only burger in borowdale.

The hotel rooms were mixed, and generally did not display value for money.

The breakfast was good, but there wasn't very much of it.

My advice would be to find somewhere else to stay and avoid this place until the owners have had a rethink about their staff, and employed a few decent people who are friendly and welcoming.
